the car keeps blowing fuse 4 as soon as it makes contact with the fuse box and i no longer have any indicators so they must be on the same circuit. this wasn't a problem before i swapped engines so any ideas what is causing it ?
also what's the best high temp brake fluid to use and how much fluid does a full none abs system hold ?
cheers Mick.

So BMW would have you believe, if you rely on the handbook, but, on cars after about '88, it also supplies the glovebox light.Rav335uk wrote: and fuse 4 is only for the indicators.
Sort the glovebox light out, and your fuse blowing will cease!

Well, BMW are taking the pee pee then, as I have always known it to supply indicators only.

The 'give away' is that the glovebox light fuse is listed as #21, which is a 'permanent live' circuits fuse. meaning that the light should come on whenever the glovebox is opened. It only comes on when the ignition switch is turned on later cars, so it must be fed from an 'ignition live' circuits fuse instead. They didn't change the colour of the wire, which is still red with a stripe, incorrectly indicating a permanently live, fused, wire.

So on my 87 chromie, it would still only operate the indicator circuit?

If the glovebox light will work with the ignition switch off, then the only thing that should be fed by fuse #4 is the indicators.
If the indicators are switched on by the hazard light switch, then they are fed by yet another fuse.

It's probably just fallen apart - happens quite easily, and can be snapped back together again.magpie wrote:turns out i'd snapped the bulb holder off and the metal spring was in contact with the metal bracket ,thanks again![]()
Needs a bulb in it, or the bottom contact can work its way up and short against the side contact.
