M52 b30 stroker rebuild back on the road
Moderator: martauto
fitted the clio servo today....

you need to drill out the brake bar pin hole ^^^^

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
i've used a spacer that fits inside the brake master cylinder about 13mm long but need to drive the car to see if it's the right length and works how it should . i broke the last clio servo ....fookin French shoite!
still no prop bearing from ecp yet ,i'm never ordering on-line again from them...it's a 100 % fail rate so far !!!
i'm hoping to drive it tues/weds next week if my work schedule allows.....it's gone hectic again now the sun is out

A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better

well this would've been finished and driving if i had a centre bearing last week.
the m50 conversion i took out was fitted in two days as was the m52'd red 2dr i converted for a zoner .
i'm not bothered about how long it's taking as i know it will be done once and done properly and is the right low mileage fsh steel lined donk

time for an update on this and it's not good .
the first drive of it went ok until the alternator failed and i had to get the AA out. After fully charging the battery i was able to drive it home with the AA van folowing [just in case] .
that was easily fixed with a 140A alternator from the m50 and back out to play next day
then my starter motor just bought from ebay started playing up making odd noises and not engaging all the time ,more to follow on this <<<<<
but that's just the tip of the iceberg as it turns out .my clutch f00ked up big time [brand new ecp sachs clutch] it's the wrong clutch and it's for an e28 525e which is different to a normal 525 or an e30 which it was bought for.
one of the springs has came off almost cutting my gearbox in half and resulting in very little clutch so before the m52's removal it decided it had one more trick up it's sleeve and decided to bid me farewell and blow up!
out ya come .

m42 box cut through completely about 2" long ....

cut through completely 6" long
gauged out all the way round inside the bell housing

clutch cover damage ...

the missing spring has caused all the damage [to the g/box] and here's what's left of it

but before you think that's bad luck the engine clattered to a halt when putting it through it's paces on it's way home to find out what happened to the clutch ....at this point i'm now getting p1ssed off with it and not even covered 150 miles infact i've just checked the mileage trip and it reads 127 miles since the first drive .

there is still hope of fixing it at this point with a set of cams/trays and caps for a cost of £60 [some on ebay right now as by it now] and sorting out what's happened at the oil pump/pick up when i get the sump off if the crank is still good...........
BUT while taking the clutch off i rotated the internals at the crank nut to get the rest of clutch cover bolts into view and easier to take off i found out the big crank nut was slack..... uh oh
so i tightened it up and have now noticed that both chains are still on the cams but are not moving when turning the crank .....GAME OVER
on a brighter not i've found out why my starter motor is playing up ........
i told the bloke at the machine shop who lightened my flywheel to start taking the metal away 10mm in from the ring gear so it would be safe but when picking it up he hadn't done as i'd asked .
here's one my normal place has done for me which is correct and safe .

the week i wanted my flywheel lightened my normal lath operator was on holiday so i took it to another place who f00ked it up by not leaving 10mm of meat at the ring gear...

like a coont i fitted it and this is what happened ...

ring gear coming off towards the front of the engine and causing the starter to fail .
flywheel and clutch will be going back for a re-fund at the least .the ring gear is not related to the clutch fail and it seems this m52 project was doomed to fail from the off.
to think last month i had a fully running fast m50 that could do 1/4 miles at 14.6 secs all day long .
i had a quick tally up and i could get 4k + if i broke the car up but that would kill me inside doing it

Stick with it Mick, it's a ball ache, but trust me, speaking from experience, you'd miss the turd if you got shot of it.
to carry on and fix it means buying another e36 running with a good steel lined engine and fragging the rest to get my money back ,i still have 2 3rds of an e36 on my drive
not the fastest sellers in parts these things but the blue e36 has paid for itself now.

Would be a crime to do that, i've had 3 different E30's in the time you've held on to that, and i'm not saying that like its a good thing on my partmagpie wrote:i had a quick tally up and i could get 4k + if i broke the car up but that would kill me inside doing it
Wish i had never sold my White E30, you'll miss it if you do get rid, bigger and better this time

oh sheet man ! id be temted to just buy another engine from a reliable source rather than take more room on the drive if you dont have the space .
Or whip the head off and check for damage ? new chain and tensioner new cams n crack on ?
Dont give up .

a new flywheel is on the way for postage costs only thanks to Brian28 [and thanks to topblag for the same offer].i have a new sachs clutch [strait exchange] and i'm going to get the gearbox welded then ground flat.a new engine may well of been sourced, just waiting on pressure test results so will know about that next weekend .
could be back on the road in ten days or so fingers crossed.

new engine sourced and will be with me around weds this week ,it's had the pressure test done and past that also an oil light was hooked up and it has good oil pressure ...it's the last of the m52's made. A 1999 block so naturally i'm happy and looking forward to driving it again .
i'm also spared having to clog up my drive with another fat dirty 6
