I have a touring . I have 4 speaker system amped . 12"sub boxed and amped . I want my boot space back. I have looked for the thread on fitting into the spare wheel space but can't find it. Has any one done this? Or would it be better for a bass tube?

I made a skinny box between the 2 strut towers, works really well IMO.

I have a couple of subs. I think the older one is jl? Neither are thin. I want to reduce weight too as the build I have takes up half the boot and is all 18 mm mdf

under seat subs are ok, one i had was a cheap ripspeed thing, small about phone book size and did an ok job, not like " BASS" but more just to add a normal bass level to small standard type speakers that lacked any bass

You can buy specially made sub enclosures known as lukeboxes from America that I am in talks with to become a uk supplier.
If you show him a bit of interest and mention this forum that might be a great help to both of us.

I would have thought the e30 spare wheel well would be ideal for a hidden sub box, its a decent size for starters and a nice shape.

Never seen one specifically on an e30, but talkaudio forums and the like will have loads of threads on making one, and the method is pretty much the same whatever the vehicle.

Line the well, packing tape and cling film, build up layers with fibreglass mat and resin, cut a top baffle to size out of 18mm mdf and bond and screw it on top.

All fine as long as you don't mind losing the spare or have LPG. Although you could always buy a spacesaver emergency spare to strap to the boot floor for longer journeys without losing too much space.
cheers,
