I've recently bought a pretty much mint Sport for a good price and want to upgrade a few things. Can anyone recommend a good stainless exhaust system for under Ԛ£500?? Thanks.

I have a Scorpion on mine and love it but some people think they're a bit loud.

An exhaust is a very personal thing, you really need to hear them before comitting to buy a particular brand. As soon as I heard a Scorpion system, I wanted one but some people hate them. I presonally wouldn't touch anything made by powerflow or any other custom exhaust system except for BTB or Hayward & Scott but you're looking at serious money for those.

quicksilver Alpina system is tasty, only 2 exist and the sound is cracking, nice and bassy low down and not too loud up the rev range. Lots of peeps have heard mine to back me!!

this sounds the same as mine then as my powerflow has its loudest point at 2000rpm and not to loud up the rev range.

Where do I begin...

(Bear in mind this is my own personal experience)

Firstly, I've had one built and fitted to my old 318i and Jimbob has had one fitted to his 318iS. The build quality is shocking and the fitting was just as bad.

Secondly, the exhausts aren't actually developed for a certain car. They just use an array of pipes and boxes to mock up something roughly resembling the shape of the stock system. This means that you'll probably end up losing power from one of these over the stock setup.

Exhaust companies such as Sebring, Scorpion etc etc etc develop and test their exhausts for each car. They don't just build one out of bits of tubing like powerflow do. Also the price that powerflow want for their exhausts is daylight robbery.

Now the above is just based on my own experiences with them, powerflow is a franchise company so it depends on how good the actual garage is with regard to building and fitting it. The 2 systems I've seen were from different outlets and Jims was actually a bit better than mine. They still won't give you any decent gains though unless you're lucky!

Thanks for the advice - I had a Scorpion DTM on my 318iS (gone but not forgotten) which I liked the sound of but found the tailpipes a bit on the large side. I do like the look of the LeMans Scorpion pipes, subtle rolled jobbies - might go for one of those!
