Hi folks
Can anyone help with 2 issues please.
91 325 cabrio standard.
Firstly the interior light works if turned on with the switch but doesn't come on when either door opens. Window switches do come on so door open circuit is live.
Secondly, the drivers mirror is not working. Motors have been swapped and work ok on the other side. When selecting the drivers side the drivers mirror just clicks when trying to move vertically. It appears to be the switching solenoid, it also clicks when operating the passenger mirror?
Anyone had similar issues.
Thnx

Door pin switches have two sets of contacts, and it's common for the light switch ones to fail while the window section still works. Unscrew the single screw holding each switch in, pull the switch out and clean the contact faces. There's often a small sliver of black plastic that forms between the two which needs to be trimmed with a craft knife.
If you disconnect the wires, DON'T let them slip back through the hole in the A pillar, or you'll have some dismantling to do.
If everything is OK there, do you have the optional interior light switch off delay module?
Mirror problem will most likely be the switch. Check (with a 12 volt bulb) to see if you have ignition switched power between the black and brown wires at the mirror motor.
It's normal for both mirrors to click at the same time, but the noise is usually drowned out by the motor noise from the mirror that's moving.

Hey thanks for the swift reply Brian. I seem to remember the light used to stay on when closing the door then fade off. I'll check the door switches tomorrow - unusual for both to fail together?
I replaced the door mirror control last year with a new one but will check out the ign live as suggested
Thanks again

If the light used to fade off, rather than switch off suddenly after a short time, then you have an aftermarket delay unit, not an OE E30 one. As with most aftermarket stuff, it's only made to a fraction of the quality of OE electrics, and is very likely to have failed.

Sorry I meant it stayed on for a short while then turned off, can't remember if it faded or not. Car is pretty original so don't think any things been retro fitted.
Thanks again

There's one way to find out for sure, and that's to remove the driver's side loudspeaker panel, remove the speaker, a plastic filler piece below it, and see if there's a black relay sized box mounted on the same triangular plate as the locking ECU.

Hi Brian
Have checked now and there is power to the mirror between the brown & blue with ign on. I'll have a go at the panel over the next couple of days
