Help removing shifter 'mount' rod

I have removed the shifter rod from the gearstick but I'm struggling to remove the mounting rod that attaches to the gearbox

Granted I'm using a e34 530 gearbox but I can't see exactly what I'm doing so almost doing it by feel!

I have removed the retaining clip but I can't seem to remove the little metal part that holds it in

Is there something obvious I have missed?

I am replacing the whole shifter and I don't require the mounting rod from the gearbox

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If it is part #12 you are refering to it is indeed a pig as you're looking at it from the back of the gearbox you need to get a very thin bladed screwdriver underneath the top of it and flip it upwards - there is a retaining clip on the right hand side which needs to be pressed at the same time - it will then flip upwards and you then pull the pin out to the left

I couldnt work it out either - had to phone danthe from under the car when i did mine !

If its #8 the locking pin once the spring clip is out of the way you need to put slight pressure on #7 which should mean you can tap the pin out IIRC it will only come out one way but can't remember which sorry
