Great evening today. Gave it a good run whilst topping up with coolant. It seems to be running ok.
Finding it a bit tricky bleeding. I can't undo the bleed screw so I removed one of the unused sensors on the engine side of the thermostat until coolant came out, then blew down the expansion tank until coolant came out of the rad overflow pipe connection.
I had the heater on full speed and hot
But still only managed to put about 11 litres in
I guess I've got an air lock and need to add some more coolant.
Suppose I need to just keep trying.
ALso I had a good look inside the rocker cover with the filler cap off and I could see a good squirt of oil coming out the end of the spray bar, happy with that.
Need to finish off bleeding then get the cam cover off and check the torque on the head bolts.
The engine oil pressure light goes half brightness as soon as the engine starts so need to work out why that is, could be a bad earth?

It's getting really close now to getting her back in the road and I started doing this M30 build in Jan 2012 so really excited about driving it. Any idea what sort of power I should be getting ?
Its an e34 m30b35 good condition lump and the mods I've done are:
e28 M535 flywheel
Shrick cam in recon head
BBTB
BBR Starchip ECU
0.5mm skimmed head
19lb injectors
I'm hoping for about 230bhp

I find raising the front end helps bleeding the m30 a lot.!

Will do Chris, I got the front end of mine right up on axle stands, i'm going to lift the expansion tank up as high as I can get it next and keep trying.

Might be just a case of giving it a few revs to get the water rushing through at a faster rate then?

I would be Happy for you if you get near that BHP mark Jim, but i think you'll be about 215-220bhp.jimbom30cab wrote:It's getting really close now to getting her back in the road and I started doing this M30 build in Jan 2012 so really excited about driving it. If you had done a full rebuild with those mods, then I would have thought you'd be close to the figures, with a 6 branch.

Doesn't the m30b35 have 218bhp from stock? I'd of thought with Jim's mods he will get a bit more out of it.

Im betting 225bhp 240 lb ft, Gareths made just a little less than that with just a 1mm skim.
Get it on the rollers Jim, basic power run will be around £30.

will do
finally today I got the car off the axle stands and rolled it outside
I gave it a good run and finished off the bleeding
I tried to engage all the gears but having issues selecting the gears, I don't think I have bled the clutch fluid properly as I couldn't select 3rd or 4th at all. The biting point when selecting 2nd was really low so more bleeding needed. I could select all the gears fine on the box when it was on the bench as I had the box reconditioned.
also, the car is really really low, which is cool to some but I think its too low for me.
I need to upgrade the springs and shocks. At present I have the 318i kit on, its unknown but gave a slight drop to the factory 318i springs.
When it comes to the springs I need some advice. What I ideally want is close to factory height as possible as I really don't want to lower it any more than necessary. I know it will be a little lower as it's a really heavy engine but what springs would give me as high a ride height as possible? Anyone got any good recommends ?
I'd read that genuine e30 m3 with air con springs would be a good fit.
I was thinking of boge turbo shocks.
So the good news is the engine runs really well, no leaks and quite a smooth idle considering the cam and flywheel. The bad news is the non-selection of gears and i'll need new suspension
cheers

Look up KW suspension.
Most of the European Touring cars run their suspension set up.

I took them off a 318is, they were used for 2000miles, or there abouts.
They were a 30mm drop with srings and shocks.

If you want to keep it standard then get a set of standard 51mm struts and springs from a 325i.? I'm sure Rav will hook you up with that really cheap set he has going spare..

Hi Chris, never thought of that, do you think a set of bog standard 325i springs with a boge turbo shock would be ok? I guess there would be a slight drop due to the M30 being a bit heavier. But if this no more than an inch drop over a standard 325 I could live with that.
I've got 51mm struts as it's a cab
I recon there must be loads of people who have lowered and have the old set of 325i standard springs going for peanuts.

Ahh yes of course, the cabs come with 51mm struts regardless of engine size..
Do you know if the current shocks it has are the same for 6 pot cars.. they might be as they insert into the 51mm struts.. if so you'd only need springs then.
