cars you've missed out on

yeah it was in a scrapyard with a knackered gearbox but still a steal. it's easy to forget how cheap stuff like that was before the late eighties classic car boom etypes for instance could be had for bugger all in the early eighties.Speedtouch wrote:Now, that does indeed sound like a steal.pnd wrote:Aston Martin DBs V8 for £600 in 1985. there was a guy selling a e9 coupe 3.0 cs in silver up in southall few years back, fairly old chap had it on his drive saw it as i drove past it looked a bit sorry, knocked on his door and to my surprise he was selling and wanted £1500 first come first serve,
the car itself looked fookin beatiful! bit of bubbling but nothing major at all, tires etc were cracked cause it had apparantly been standing for a good few years!
it had 2 owners from new and 89k, i asked him to hold it as i got rid of my m535i got rid of it raised the monies called him 11 days later twas gone....

This car should have been up for sale for 1500+ but due to the guy having been messed around twice and needing it gone it was up for 99p.
It was buy it now for 750 but dad convinced me to be a jew and try and win it and save money, long story short I bid 550 quid for it but some absolute bastard beat me by something like £1 seconds before the end. I was so angry i booted the computer and didnt go on ebay for weeks.
When i finally swallowed defeat I logged onto ebay again, i had a message from the seller stating the winner hadnt contacted him and hed like to sell it to me for the price I offered. Ofcourse when i replied it was too late and the chariot was gone
This is just one of many reasons why I hate ebay.
I would have legitimately cried. Those E9's are absolutely beautiful... Doubt i'll ever own one though judging by how much they go for now.bmw9818 wrote:there was a guy selling a e9 coupe 3.0 cs in silver up in southall few years back, fairly old chap had it on his drive saw it as i drove past it looked a bit sorry, knocked on his door and to my surprise he was selling and wanted £1500 first come first serve, called him 11 days later twas gone....

On the flip side i had an absolute steal with my e30 318is
most bargains never get offered for sale on the likes of ebay/ pistonheads etc, its all word of mouth and that's how i came across mine.
my e30 is a 84k, 4 owner car (i think) with good history and a solid shell in laser blue, the guy i bought it from was a mate of a mate who had it "diagnosed" as a cracked head. he justed wanted shot of it for £600, i ended up paying £325 for it. The fault actually turned out to be a duff fuel filter. So yes there are bargains still to be had.

When I lived in Sweden for 10 months last year, I tried to buy an immaculate looking 325ix for approx £1750. Sadly the seller had decided to keep it.
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is
8 years ago, for £3200, I was offered a 2 owner C2 2.7, based on an a tech 1 sport, and wow what a bloody car it was, finished in black, and amongst the tech 1 kit, it also supported an alpina front lip, rear spoiler, Staggered alpina wheels, gear knob, steering and even the bloomin vent gauge. All c2 2.7 badges still in situ, and a cardinal red interior to boot, had the proper alpina exhaust, and to this day I have never been in a quicker e30. At that time I preffered the look of the tech bloody 2 and spunked out more on one of these instead.
What I would do to get my hands on that car now
