Heyyyyy,
So, i have a BMW e30 1986 325i.
Speedo has just stopped working for some strange reason so my first idea was to change clocks over from my friends e30.
I tried this and still no luck... Checked the connectors, they all seem clean and are making good contact.
What's my next plan of action? Ideas?

Don't just buy another sensor - you're throwing an unknown factor into the mix. Just get under the car and see if the wire from the diff is broken, like rich says.

Get wiring, from a Headlight plug, off a scrapper, with few inches of wiring, cut the existing wiring, solder the new wiring on, job done, could be the diff.sensor, but most of the time its the wiring, are your beam bushes ok?

I 'fixed' my non working speedo simply unplugging the diff connector, looking at it confused, then re attaching it firmly.been fine for a thousand miles but replacing the wire is the long term fix I feel.
The story so far... http://www.cookracing.co.uk/

The wire to the diff. breaks for well documented reasons, which a 'search' on here will bring up.
The break may well be internal, with the plastic sheath of the wire intact, so you need to check by gently stretching the wires.
About the last 300mm of the wire (at least) must be replaced, complete with plug, NOT repaired.
As TPS says, the headlamp wiring off a scrapper is the source of your replacement wire, or you can go to BMW.

I replaced the last 300mm of wiring leading to the diff, as this seems to be the main problem people encounter, but it still would not work. I had the solder on my speedo resoldered and it sorted the problem.
