what sort of power can you make from the 3.2 with a good air filter and exhaust plus a re-flash/power chip?

Hi,

Approx 310-315 BHP if its all set up
correctly and the engine has good
CR on all cylinders.

Good 3.2's are around 300 mark, others are
less.

The 320 BHP quoted by BMW are ''Bench'' figures
from Engine Dyno's.

Go Dyno your current engine on an indepedant
Dyno, not the company selling the 'Tuning'
parts and then go back after its all set up.

If you gain more than 15 BHP from an
Exhaust/ filtre and Chip your doing well.

Hi,

Quote- ''How much are the 3.0's making?

BMW's Bench figure is 286 BHP and many of
the 3.0'S make much nearer their claimed
figure than the 3.2's.

If you want the best combination for
MS perfromance then use the 3.0 block and Crank etc,
it has larger mains and shorter stroke with
the 3.2 head which flows better.

Gives an almost ''square engine'' which revs
better due to a slighty shorter stroke.
Gives the stronger bottom end.

Then use the 3.0 Cam wheels to lock down
the Vanos on the 3.2 head and on Track you
will be in a very good position.

Problem with the Vanos on Track is that
Vanos table from 5000 rpm goes up in 1000's
so Variable Cams never really make the Cam angles.
Road car then keep it for lower down Torque
and fuel consumption.

looks like i will be defo going s54 then,i have had an e30 with the s52 and although it was pretty quick it just wasn't enough . there is a few companys now doing plug and play looms for the e30 s54 conversions which makes life a lot easier and the rest of the swap is pretty much the same

S54 in std form will make around 320/325 BHP[flywheel]
if a good one, seen quite a few dyno at sub 320[flywheel] though.

So if you already have the S50/52 then not sure
how the extra 20 BHP of the std S54
makes all that much difference on the road ?.
