I've got an unmolested and immaculate 316 non sunroof auto cromie sitting in the garage together with a matt black drifter that is running a Nissan CA18DET ( 1.8 Turbo ) conversion. The intention when i bought the drifter was to transfer the conversion into the immac shell as a road car. So far i have sorted the wiring properly ( connecting knock sensors, rerouting and modifying the loom so it will plug straight into the c101 on the good shell and the nissan ecu now sits under the dash as the original did. Problem is i'm now getting pangs of guilt about being quite so radical on such a nice shell and my mate has offered to cover my costs on the drifter as is so I'm really wondering whether i'd be better off selling the drifter complete with the engine etc and going the M20 325 route instead - - What do you guys think ??

As long as you're doing the conversion properly, and have no intention of 'bruving' or drifting it, then I can't see anyone objecting to the engine swap. The car you're molesting, apart from being immaculate, is about as far as you can get from a desirable E30.

Cheers Brian, I have to agree re your "As far as you can get from a desirable E30" comment, in fact my wife declared it an E30 in name alone LOL. I certainly won't be bruving or drifting it, mildly lowered, 15in BBS with Yoko's or Toyos and immaculate beige IS seats but retaining the perfect cromie style door panels / carpets. I may even leave the mudflaps and 316 badge on winkeye

That is mathematically correct, no arguments here. Perhaps you meant to say that 6 cylinders are better than 4 ?

Hmm, I've already done an m50 vanos into a e30 cab and preferred the old M20 2.5. The trouble is the cost of all the bits needed and having a custom exhaust made, at least with the Nissan lump I've got that already. TBH I think i'll be on the lookout for a rotten moredoor/ touring 325i at least that way I've go everything i need in one go. I have looked at buying just the engine / box but would prefer a whole scrapper as that would provide struts / vented discs etc. Anyone have an idea of cost for a running rotter ?
