Wouldn't say it looks exactly "Factory" from your pics, but for the money spent I'll be happy if mine looks as good.
I should get off my arse and do it now, but I've had too many beers and would probably make a mess of it !

Not too sure I follow that. This is a replacement for the original leather, you cut the old one off and put the new one on, the only difference is that BMW didn't supply the replacement. (Still came from Germany though !)gaszman wrote:the cover and know are one carl not separate as you will have it . still looks fookin great for the money though
Polsta, can you save me the hassle of translating the German instructions and tell me what glue you are suppode to use to glue down the top edge under the plaque?
I'm assuming something like UHU..

Looks good eh? Agree its almost factory like ? Bearing in mind never actualy seen/felt a brand new oem one and the leather will change over time, but sheer fantastic for a tenner, a re trim would not achieve better
One thing il say tho - yours looks saggy at the lower end like it needs to be cut ? I pulled mine right up, spent about 10 mins on the bottom massaging/pushing it up so only enough to glue around the bottom lip like the original was, then rest folds under the top, going to finish mine tomorrow find the new plaque n glue it, I've read up a contact adhesive is best to use for plastic and leather

Yeah, the finish is great, but you're right, it is too long. I pushed it through so that there was no "overhang" at the bottom but then there was too much material to tuck under the plastic disc at the top....
I reckon my knob is the short version.
I'm in two minds about cutting it down at the bottom though becasue I don't want the stitching to come undone.
I fitted mine in the car today and tried to tuck the surplus material into the top of the gaitor where they meet on the lever shaft but I need to go back with a blunt instrument to poke it in. I reckon that'll sort it out.

got ya, your gear knob (i think) its some sort of earlier than e30 bmw, i also have one of them thats like brand new, which when fitted with gaitor looks no different to an e30 anyway, its exact same just slightly shorter and the head is a slightly smaller, feels great in the hand

Sincé you posted the link to the photos here I've had to read your entire resto thread from start to finish!
Took me ages, but a great read, well done. I'd love to do that to my car.
In fact it'll be going into storeage soon for a few years so when I get back it'll probably need it!

thanks mate, its getting there but come a long way, is its going in to storage id fertan it all after a proper clean, then waxoyl , keep any rust at bay
just glued the gear knob, used evo stick contact adhesive, looks to have done a good job on the bottom, tops just drying now, for the bottom if you cut yours, you need just enough to cover the lip , some of that and rest it upside down with something plastic over it and a weight on top, sticks it a treat, il post pics in a bit

Bottom looks good I agree, but haven't you got the plaque on 90º out?
The stitching goes up the sides of the knob, not up the front and back.

It's not stuck down yet , as I pondered this - left to right looks better , the other similar I have I'd left to right , looked through some pics of tech 1s and they are vertical like that, which I think is the correct way?
