I had a faulty boot lock on my first E30 - you used to be able to get replacements from ECP - buy a new lock first then stick a large screwdriver in it and twat it with a hammer - it will pop the boot job jobbed.

I really doubt the rubber deal will make it this hard I've been yanking it all evening!
Ok from horizontal if I turn 90 degrees to the left (anticlockwise) the push button doesn't go in if I do the opposite, clockwise from horizontal the button goes in and out but the boot lid does not open. So my question is wich way does it lock? Lol

With the key slot horizontal that should be unlocked, with the key slot vertical that is locked.
If the key turns it sounds like something connected to the lock has come adrift rather than the lock itself being knackered.
I'm sure I've read on here before that there is a way you can pop the boot lock through the rear number plate lamps but its very fiddly.
Failing that you will just need to break the lock as per my previous description

The boot lock has to be horizontal for the key to come out... When I put the key in I can either go anticlockwise or clockwise not sure wich way is unlock.
Any idea where the write up is to access via the number plate lights?
Anyone else got any ideas or is replacement and brute force my only option?

Dismantle the lock, clean, lubricate and put back together.
Or it'll likely happen again when the WD40 dries out.

For the actual lock barrel, yes. Graphite powder is ideal (file down a pencil).
I don't think you can strip down the barrel easily, so take it off, wedge the shutter open, flush it out with WD40, holding it vertically, face down, dry it out, then hold it face up and drop the graphite powder in.
Rest of the lock, clean and ideally a bit of white grease.

Thanks Brian I shall do that.
