hi guys,
Recently installed new alloys on my cab 17 x 7.5 and running these new wheels have highlighted the horrible noise of wheel bearings.
today i have just had both front wheel bearings replaced yet the noise is still there yet reduced slightly. Noise is usually between 20 - 30mph and while coming to a stop. Car is lowered and i have checked that there is no rubbing issues. Mechanic seems to think there something stuck inside the actual tire causing this noise although im not convinced. Any ideas?

Check that the tyres are mishaped. I presume they've got some ling longs or some crap on there that'll go lumpy at the first touch of a hot piece of tarmac.

Run your hand over the tread, especially on the inner edges.

Swap the wheels from front to back and see if it makes a difference.

We're the tyres brand new or used? Are they a decent brand? How many miles have you done since they were fitted?
I would have thought that jacking the wheel up and spinnin it slowly you'd be able to feel of hear whether there was something inside the tyre.
Saying that, I bought a set of wheels recently and one had an odd rattle, I assumed it was a piece of rubber or something had come loose inside the tyre. When I removed the tyre there was a 10g wheel weight rattling around loose inside it! I doubt that did the wheel balance and good at all. At low speed it would have tumbled and dropped wherever and higher speed would have been pushed against the outside tread at a different place every time.

The tyres are used with around 3 mill tread left and are continentals all round (seems to be an old version). As the bearings have been replaced im beginning to think they are the tyres as the chap i bought them off said they had been on the wheels for a few years but never mounted to a car. With the old 15" bbs there was no noise at all so i assume the tyres are not up to the job on these new wheels. Will try and swap for the old bbs and if there is no noise them i know the tyres are the culprit.
The odd thing is i had the wheel shop lift the car on jacks and spin the wheel and there was no noise coming from the wheels apart from the drivers front, ( a random clicking noise ) which he later diagnosed as something inside the tyre, although when on the ground and driven the noise of badly worn bearing was apparent, hence changing both front bearing to no avail.

I would put money on it being the tyres too.
Tyres will wear into the geometry of the car they're on, put tem on a different car and it can take many hundreds or even thousands of miles for them to settle into the new car, particularly if they have different suspension setups.
