Looked at the obc today and looked up on the wiki and guides, going to put the obc in

2 things, 1st is this kit complete ?

Image

and the temp sensor bit with the bung, where does it go through ? the guide said bellow the brake servo, so it it here removing this bung ?

Image

but on the other side, theres no space in the liner ?? so is it a case of having to cut a hole ? or is there a different soloution ? or have i got it wrong ?

The bung you remove is part of the large square rubber grommet that you can see behind the glovebox.
Steering column stalk and cover for the horn are missing from your kit.

See above !

Also - when factory fitted, where does the loom get held in place ? In the dash with the other loom or across the top in front if the heater to dash bit ?

Interesting , is it better/easier than the grommet way ? Can you fit the plug through or chop off and re attach ?

What about the loom where should it all be attached to ? The guide says attach to dash ? Does it mean along with the other loom ?

I attched the loom where the origional went, on the underneath the top ogf the inside of the dash, if that makes sense.
The plugs ONLY FIT in their own locations, not difficult to do when you se it.

Yeah u got ya, it seemed pretty simple in the guide , can the loom be put in the dash and clipped in before dash is fitted ? Or can it s be more or less Plummer in before fitting the dash and everything else ?

What about the actual temp sensor that the plug plugs in to ? I haven't got one have I ?

"Plug the temperature sensor\horn wiring loom into both the sensor and horn, feed it back along the side of the engine bay clipping it in with the rest of the wiring. You will see a rubber grommet beneath the brake servo, push the end of the loom through the grommet and into the car. "

Cut out the correct position for the OBC loom grommet in the large squarish bulkhead grommet.
The grommet is almost punched out and can be removed by a sharp blade, although I generally use a hole saw of the appropriate diameter. The loom will go through the freshly cut out hole from the engine side, and, with a bit of lubricant (ideally silicon grease) will pull into place. Brace the rest of the square grommet with your fingers as you pull the OBC grommet home, or you are likely to pull the whole lot out of place.
AFAIK, the loom behind the dash runs with the lower loom. If it was clipped to the dash along the top, then the dash wouldn't be able to be removed in the way it should, but, since these were dealer fitted it was ultimately down to whoever fitted it.
There's more than one type of temp. sensor, depending on age/model.

Horn (and its steel enclosure) mount to existing holes on the underside of the panel where an ABS pump fits.
Sensor will be as cheap from BMW as anywhere.

The horn is for the OBC's alarm function, and the enclosure is to stop someone just reaching under and ripping the wires off.
Underside of the horizontal panel right behind the LH headlamp.

Right I've got most of it sorted and in place now, last few bits -

On the glove box side-
A black 2 hole connector with a red/white and brown/green wire, is double backed taped to the loom ? What's that for ?

And the 2 spare connectors a white 2 hole connector with a green and green/red wire , and the white single hole connector with red and red/white wire - the guide says plus them in to the main control box there's only 2 places they can go , I presume the accessories socket ? there's 1 only slot the single can go with matching thin pin, but no empty slot for the other ? I have 2 double size empty at the bottom right corner if the socket , but the pins are the fatter size and it won't fit ? The only 2 thin pin socket in there(2nd up from bottom left) has a connector in to it from the loom from the big grommet that branches off with a single green wire/pin blue connector, and double with a green and blue wire in it , both plugged in to the socket ?

And last bit- on the stalk wire a black double connector socket, with a grey and a grey/red wire , what is this for where dies it plug ?

Thanks :)

thanks ben , but it doesnt really help as such , ive been following the wiki

Image

the wiki it gives "H" as obc- thats where the single one goes, thats in ive got that one

problem is -

on the obc another connector along with the alobe one,but double size is- a white/clear 2 hole connector with a green and green/red wire , small pins

in "b+c" socket on the image above, is the only one it will fit in, in that image it says "not used"

but in that socket, i have something plugged in, its the same double small pin connector, that comes branched off from the main loom from the big grommet, and has a "GREEN and BLUE wires

so im stuck at what to do ?

heres a pic, you can see the "double pin" with green wires obc connector, just above the orange relay box thing, and just in the bottom left corner of the acessories socket, you can just about see the plug in it

thats the only plug in the socket that this will fit in,and cant see anything else that can plug in to it ?

although tomorrows job is to sort this whole corner out

Plug with the green and green/red wires is the immobiliser plug. Goes to a matching socket with two identical plain green wires hanging down from the loom above the top of the glovebox area.
There will already be a plug in this socket with a short loop of green wire fitted between its pins, or if you already have an immobiliser, there may already be a plug with wires leading off to it.

Thanks Brian , Il look tomorrow - I've got an aftermarket alarm fitted , not sure how its wired in exactly with regards to that, would both that and the obc immobiliser both work ? Or should I leave out the obc one and not connect that plug ?

It depends if you want to use the obc imobiliser function as well. You can set it up with a code that has to be entered otherwise the engine will turn but not fire.

OBC code is a waste of time, it is very easily overcome within seconds.

OBC CODE immobiliser can be overcome in seconds, but that applies to most others fitted to E30s as well. If the socket is already occupied by another immobiliser, then this can be connected in series with the OBC one. This was done on cars that were dealer fitted with both the OBC and the OE alarm options.
I hadn't seen the two pics. above when I made my last post, but at the risk of opening up another can of worms, those two fuses and the black PVC tape binding the loom, shouldn't be there.

Right - had auto electrician out today , sane one who fitted the alarm, its all sorted now and working and central locking etc

The immobiliser has the fuel pump cut off anyway , that's all am working, he said just dont connect the obc to it

Reason being - it's not needed and more to look at incase if any problems/diagnose in the future , and pointed out before we even looked at it- that often in the obc black box. The end pin burns out due to it not being man enough to take the fuel pump current, is that true ? I got the box out and indeed that end pin was iffy, he advised leave it all as it is you don't need the obc code bit it's a novelty that soon wear off and most people don't use anyway and everything is decent as it is now, is that true ?

Nothing to do with the fuel pump current, because that doesn't pass through it, but he's correct that the box is a weak point.
Sounds like you may have got someone that knows his E30s there!
