To help with a disagreement, how much would you say a Tech I sport shell, which is welded up, rot free and dipped be worth ?

£800-£1200 would be it for me, apart from the obvious appeal of the log book, the shell is no different from another 2 door is kit?

I don't think that is relevant. Rot free shell is a straightforward concept.daimlerman wrote:Two Mars Bars, possibly two Mars Bars and a Kit-Kat.

It will be worth less than another in the same condition with low owners full history and matching engine number ( required for top valuation).

Any post that doesn't have a number on it is pretty much useless.

Lots of variables Colin. How rusty was it ? what are the repairs like ? is it arrow straight and ready for paint or still in need of lots of finishing and prep ?
One thing will be certain, It is not worth anywhere near what it owes the person who paid for all the work

Two rear outer arches need done, assume inners also. One patch below abs pump and all surface rust cleaned up prior to dipping.pacerpete wrote:Lots of variables Colin. Repair panels will be aftermarket and welding done to a high standard. It'll be acid dipped so it'll need a full repaint.
Arrow straight, no evidence of accident damage and hpi clear.

Alas , unless it is a 10000 miler or something very rare and desireable, cough, the above work and paint job are going to cost several times more than the value of your average patched up 170k Tech 1 turd. Which is why very few of these cars get restored properly

so a buyer would get the bare shell and no parts at all ? youd need a nice (parts wise) complete tech 1 as a donor/re shell
the very best thing to do, would be to have it all in primer and waxoyled, and store the fooker away for 5-10 years if possible, would be worth fortunes then

ONE DAY the resto work will be less than the value but it is a long time away.
I personally think a good solid 100% rot free shell is worth upward of a grand. If the shell is a genuine Tech 1 sport add 2-300 quid to the value. My reason for this is because if you can prove it is rot free, that is worth a grand all day long if it has any (even small) frilly bits its worth what the scrap metal merchant will pay.
Plenty of shitty Tech 1's still out there, at somepoint a bare rot free dipped shell will look an attractive proposition to somebody....
Like Polsta said, store it for 10 years and see what happens but stick a load of silica gel in a box in the footwell and cover it with waxoyl

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

there is a big difference between an original rust free shell and a 'repaired' one, no matter who carries out the repairs, in both desirability and value.

I'd happily give a bag for a rot free shell in primer.
Have to say i'm a little bit suspicious about the dipping process leaving residue in certain box sections making a bid for freedom a couple of years after making the shitter look blinging...
This isn't 5-8 years ago when tidy 316/8 shells owned by grannies were plentiful...
Call me a pessimist but until i've had an endoscope inside all of the cavities i tend to view every e30 now as a ticking time bomb
...Anyway yep solid grand right there
