I know this has been mentioned before but I cant find the post that explained the cure and part numbers (been looking for ages).
I remember there was a fairly easy part that you can replace to freshen up the gear selecting a little. Ive looked here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=25&fg=05 but before I go and get the part from BMW, is it part no, 7 I need to replace? (25111220600).
Thanks in advance.

Nothing worse than a floppy gear stick!
You REALLY need to replace parts 14,15,16,17,18, 19 & 20 to do a proper job, but replacing no. 7 and throwing in a Z3 gear stick will drastically improve the gear change anyway... but that's the 'quick fix' method.

Thanks, I am really just after a quick fix at the moment as its really annoying me, but with the weather as it is, its not the time to start ripping the car apart (especially as I dont know what im doing!).

Dude... I replaced all the parts I mentioned on my previous Sport, and the difference was AMAZING!
I replaced all the bushes on the selector rod (14-20), changed 7, 11, 12 & 13 and installed a z3 2.8 gear lever. To say that it completely changed my car is an understatement!
Strange that replacing yours didn't remedy the problem...

Having read up on the conversion, it doesnt sound too tricky, so I think ill give the whole coversion a go.
How long does it roughly take to complete?

I doubt it... part no. 13 is only a circlip. Using the original wouldn't make any difference.

Have a look on www.realoem.com and enter your vehicle details, it will tell you what parts you need then.

Part 14 on the 325 diagram is the main culprit, but it's been modified and you will probably have to buy 11 as well.

Brian... that's a definite. If you go for 14, 11 you must buy.

Found an invoice from August 2002.
Retail price of the selector rod was Ԛ£17-10, and the joint was Ԛ£13-28, both plus VAT.
