I usually put a piece of rubber fuel hose (standard 8mm hose about 25mm long) over the pipe to protect it, and secure it with a large cable tie around the rack itself. In fact, I normally fit this piece of pipe before sending them out, but actually forgot to do it on some of this recent batch
Use the standard E36 6 cylinder return line. This is the one that has a sort of cooling coil built in to it. The 4 cylinder one is a straight pipe and does not fit correctly. The other length of hose that I supplied is to fit in place of the short length of rubber hose on the E36 pipe. It's too short to reach the E30 fluid reservoir. I think you said you were using the E36 reservoir mounted on the engine mount. If this is the case then you won't need to use the extra hose.
You may find that the E36 return pipe touches the E34 sump. If this is the case then you just need to bend the pipe slightly. There's enough give in it to move it out of the way. Just make sure it's fully bolted in place before you bend anything.
Cheers,
Ian.
