Hello forum...is it easy to repair a defective front door lock?
The central locking works...just not when you use the "main" door.

Any help would be appreciated...

Anders..

Is it the key that wont lock the car, or the pin?

Danthe...I think its the pin. The key goes in,...and rotates...but nothing happens.

I mean the door pin that you press to lock the car from the inside,
does the key not lock the drivers door either?

Danthe...when I try to lock the drivers door from the outside...the key goes in and turns, but the door(s) doesnԚ´t lock. When I lock the door from the inside(pressing the pin) it locks everything just fine.

So the only way I can lock the car from the outside is via the boot lock.

Sounds like you have some problems with the lock barrel itself, ie. not turning onto the microswitch or flicking the lock lever. The deadlock parts do tend to wear out a lot
What about the other door?

Hi Anders,

It's not uncommon for the mechanism on the inner end of the lock barrel to break or fail in such a way that the barrel turns, but the linkage on the end does not.

Have a read through some of the lock articles here for more info.

Cheers,

You can buy a lock repair kit from the BMW dealer for about Ԛ£18, it comes with all the lock parts and a bag of coding pins so you can code it to use your existing keys.

Part number is REPAIR KIT LOCK CYLINDER RIGHT 51219061344. I think

Cheers,

I did this over christmas, not a hard job when you follow the guide that Ian posted and take a few pictures of it your self before you start to take it apart, this is what you get in the kit.
