Has anyone got a link to a thread that someone has replaced the sills as I can't find anything with the search function

Cut old one off, weld new one on. It's a standard bodywork procedure.
Best advice would be, if you've never done this before then don't try it at home. Take it to a professional and watch how he does it.
If you want to see what a car looks like with the sill off, check out the resto thread in my signature, page 4.

That's not really how you do it. You want to drill the spot welds out, like any other panel.

He wants to do all the work himself and is just looking for pointer really how to go about it.
I will help him as much as i can but bodywork ain't my strong point.
I'm sure he will manage ok once he gets in about it.

Its a small world.
Surely you dont have a weak point when working with e30s Jake. Your cars are are credit to your skills mate.
Maybe have a look through YouTube at other car makes to get some tips.
Ide say not to much heat in one place too distort the metal and be patient.

There's a great New Zealander on Youtube who does metal repair videos. His one about drilling out spot welds helped me enormously
