hi guys I'm a bit confused can any mtec kit fit any car.

also what was the basic kit before the mtec1. because it still comes with a chrome bumper.

Yes but you need to modify bits.

Tech 1 prefaclift/chromie.

Tech 2 facelift and all touring.

Also note that convertibles(not baurs) have deeper sills so have cabby specific side sills which are expensive and rare.

thanks mate it was confusing me.

my brother and i went to see a car had tech 2 kit on it. the bumpers were not fixed properly looked tacky. that means it must be a prefacelift.

how can u tell the difference between the facelift and pre facelift?

Biggest give away is probably arches. On a facelift cars the rear arch is a lower profile which you can see here:



As apposed to:



Another giveaway is the rear lights on pre facelift cars are smaller as can be seen here. Note all m3's are pre facelift so this either isn't a real m3 or it's been modified to take the bigger lights. It's just a good picture to see the difference:



Finally just because a bodykit doesn't fit well doesn't mean it's been put on a facelift car. A lot of m tech kits are bodged on by bruvs/fiberglass shit

Biggest clues between facelifts and pre- is the foglights and rear light clusters. Foglights are narrow rectangles on pre-facelifts, and squarer on facelifts with one rounded corner.

For the rear lights, a picture paints a thousand words, so have two:

It's not uncommon for people to swap front valances, resulting in facelift fogs on a prefacelift shell, but it takes epic bodgery to swap the rear light clusters, so that's the usual giveaway.

wow its a tricky one my cab is a h reg cromie cabby this means its a pre facelift. but i think it has facelift rear lights?

Cabs are the date exception. H reg chrome bumpers is a prefacelift.

Get pics of your car up and the decision can be made.

Pre facelift cabs ran till 92. It is entirely possible to have a prefacelift cab with facelift running gear and engine as well.

I could be wrong but I've never seen a h plate preface cab, the last run of them were colour coded metal bumpers, like mine.

This car is 100% Kosher , last of the pre facelift cars with 'smiley' lights, late motronic etc but metal bumpers and small rear lights. It even has correct convertible Tech 1 skirts !

It would be a good fragger, if I wasn't fixing it !
