Been spending the afternoon going through my interior wiring and figuring out what's what before I put my dash back in. I have a couple of questions, with pictures to hopefully clarify things! Hopefully one (or more) of you you will be able to help :)

First up, what does this blue relay in the nearside footwell do? It's 5-pins. Couldn't find something that matched it in the Haynes wiring diagrams at least.

Next, the big white junction block, also nearside footwell. I seem to have a lot of wires missing! Then there is the red/yellow wire with 2 single pin connectors - a male and a female. I guess the male plugs into the junction block but what about the female? Are the wires I have plugged in so far correct?

Image

Now this baby will also fit in the junction box, but only instead of the black/white wire in the photo above. It's one or the other! Which one's right and where does the remaining one go?

Image

Then there are the remaining connectors with no apparent partners hanging around. All, I believe, coming from the fusebox. Any ideas?

On the dash loom, something has been cut out by a previous owner, but I don't know what it is! The wires have 2 blue connectors on them anyway.

And finally, on a slightly unrelated note, have I got this sucker wired up right? Red being engine harness live (M52=>E30 engine loom) connected to battery feed, big fooker from battery in the middle and starter cable attached to the terminal on the end of said big fooker?

Cheers fellas.

Pics 1 & 2 : Blue relay is the one that allows your windows/roof to operate with a front door open.
Pic. 3 : Answered by Jim
Pic 4 : Related to pic. 1. If the relay wasn't there, then the green/ blue would plug into the accessories socket, and the windows/roof would only work with the ignition on, as they do in most other countries. Green/blue is for the windows if you don't have an electric sunroof, or for the sunroof if you have one.
Pic 5 : Answered by Jim
Pic 6 : Indicator repeater?
Pic 7 : Immobiliser socket. This socket must have a plug fitted into it which links the two greens together, or the car won't start.
Pic 8 : Can't quite make the pic. out, but it looks like BMW alarm wiring. The two white blocks half way down the pic. are fuses in the wires from the alarm that flash the indicators.
Pic 9 : The only wire that should be on the smaller terminal is the red one to the engine loom. Isolates the engine ECU from the voltage drop in the main cable when the starter operates, and from general spikes and interference caused by other electrics in the body looms.
Everything else (there should be one or two more) goes to the big terminal.

Jim - thanks bud, that Wiki link is awesome. Should've seen that before.

Brian - thanks for your answers - a couple more clarifying points if you are able to help?

That this relay is present - does this mean that the green/blue stays out of the accessories socket and the black/white one stays in? I should add I do have power windows but the car never had a powered sunroof.

Perhaps - will refer to the wiring diagrams on this. It seems that the side repeaters both plug into plugs from the dash loom which would leave this one redundant.

Cool - when I got the car it had a Clifford alarm/moby unit fitted, which I removed. It was starting and driving just fine after I removed that but my memory of the operation is long gone. If this is for the factory moby and there is no plug to connect the two wires, can they just be spliced together?

Yeah - this does ring a bell regarding the above operation! Probably cut to fit the Clifford.

So I have this right, minus the additional wires you mention? These are all the wires I have...

White/black goes in the socket. If you don't have an electric sunroof, then the green/blue goes to the circuit breaker for the windows.

If the indicator repeaters are all connected up, then it isn't that. Any chance that it's wiring for an OBC outside temperature sensor? That's a plain blue and a plain brown wire with a white two pin plug.

If the car runs with the socket unused, then the alarm bodgers have shorted it across elsewhere, possibly without any consideration of the loading of individual wires. On cars that left BMW without alarms the socket is fitted with a plug wit a short loop of green wire linking its pins, or, following on from the possible OBC wiring mentioned above, the OBC loom should have a matching plug with a plain green an a green/red wire.

Clifford = bin!

Engine loom red on the small terminal.
Large black wire to the starter motor, medium red to the fusebox, and medium red to the ABS pump should all be on the large terminal. The last one obviously depends on whether you have ABS, but you need to trace the other one back from the fusebox to see where it connects.

Thanks mate. Yeah, no ABS fitted, but fusebox wire is missing. Will have track that down...

Yep, sorted now thanks for your help. I'd hidden the fusebox power feed down the passenger side inner wing some time ago, didn't take long to find :)
