Hi Guys

Im looking to install my 2.7 engine soon, and want to know what i would need to do to transfer the torque converter from my old engine to new.

Also, what else should i do whilst i was at it. So far, i got:

Change Gearbox Mounts
Change Engine Mounts
Transfer flywheel
Change prop coupling

I also got a loom with a lambda sensor on it, so i will be changing the loom to. Is there an easy way to do this? What advantages is there with the lambda sensor? and as it was out of a 2.0 car, do i just change the chip to a 2.7 or is there more to it?

Thanks in adv!

What I want to know is why you're sticking an auto box into a 2.7 lump.

Ditch that torque converter and stick a flywheel onto it with a manual box.

I'll let you do the write up on the manual conversion before i do mine :D :D :D

Anyway - Cabs are nice to cruise in!

So in answer to my initial question........

you going fro a 320 to a 327 via dropping in a ETA bottom end dude ?

you'll need the flex plate ( flywheel) and the torque converter that matched the one in the car, so for 320 use the original stuff,

The flex plate and torque converer are a bolt accross swop.

Or have I mised the point again ?

Hi Ant

Thanks for ur help on the TDS - needs bushes now, but thats not relevent to this.

Also, how much do you charge for subframe bushes?

anyway - back to the point - Sal may have mentioned that i am now the proud owner of a H reg Motorsport Cab in Sebring Grey - which i got at a really good price IMHO.

Anyway - previous to purchasing the car - i was gonna drop a 327 into the qplate cab that i had in my sig on the old forum - bexleys did the engine for me so i may as well put it in this.

2.7 engine was made up of:
eta balanced/lightened crank
eta rods
325i machined early block
325i head
325i machined early pistons
new shells, bearings, core plugs, rings etc
Sals mate's Alpina Camshaft with new rockers etc
Fully ported and polished head

Picked up the engine today. :P :P :P

Anyway - i wanted to know how to put the torque converted on the new engine. Is there not a shaft that the TC pushes into the engine / gearbox?

Does anyone have any pics come to think of it?

you'll need the flex plate ( flywheel) and the torque converter that matched the one in the car
the flex plate and flywheel are two separate parts.

Quaser - the torque convertor casing is bolted to the flex plate which is the thin metal part between flywheel and torque convertor. the bolt heads point forward (toward engine) and are accessed through holes in the flywheel.

unbolt the torque convertor from the flex plate first. this then uncovers the 8 bolts that go through both the flex plate and the flywheel to secure these parts to the crank. undo the 8 bolts and the parts come free.

supposed to use new bolts on reassembly, they're not dear from bmw agent and come with dry threadlock already on the threads.
