Have just converted my m50'd 318is to m52 from a 1996 e36 Auto.

Hve wired everything everything right as far as i can tell using the wiki pages, and others.

The problem i have is the engine cranks, but the fuel pump dosent prime, but i know it def works.

Being the loom was from an auto car i removed all wires from the extra ecu plug and the extra connection plug.

The EWS unit is all wired up correctly with correct rated fuse's, and blue wire soldered so i know its connected, also have key taped into the ring.

I read on the net that it may also have to have the brown/black wire on the EWS switched because it was on an auto so tried this and no luck.

Any help appreciated as its making me go mad checking and checking connections.
:x

With an auto, it needs to be receiving the signal that the car is in neutral or it will not start, this is to say that EWS Pin 9 needs to be switched on (wire this through the same positive as switch EWS pin 5) and you should be right.

Thanks for replies, will check that it's the correct pin Iv given power to on the ews for the auto signal already.
Will check the relays and and cps when I get a chance. Need the car done ASAP really so anybody local to Southampton area who would like to give a hand let me know.

Right have checked over all of the above as best i can, and even swapped out the main relays still no luck
The car still cranks without the ews key in the pickup ring.
I still cant find the problem, i have ordered a new pickup ring as mine had been cut and re connected but doubt that will be the cause of the non start.

Anything else i can check, i am getting really annoyed as it was all running prior to removal from the e36.

Are there any wires that have to be grounded of powered that would have been connected to the auto part of thye loom other than pin 9 of the EWS?

Have you checked for power at the EWS module and transmit/receive module?

If it clicks when ignition on then it will be either between the EWS module and ECU, or a possible crank sensor problem
