i have a 318i 1990 m40 and there doesent seem to be any leeks on any of the hoses it just seems to be building up presure and making the water come from the top of the resovoir!! could it be a dodgy cap. i have also checked for air locks and have just replaced thermostat!

Pretty sure the Rad cap should have a yellow ring (or similar) inside it!
Has yours?
No expert but it has been mentioned on here a few times about this, apparently it is a modified type that BMW used as a replacements(something like that)
Hope this helps but sure someone else will help!

correct tony. original e30 radiator caps had a design fault from the factory, and all radiater caps were replaced under warranty by a redesigned cap with a yellow bottom on.eko wrote:Pretty sure the Rad cap should have a yellow ring (or similar) inside it!

Did this start happening after you fitted the thermostat?garymillscab wrote:i have a 318i 1990 m40 and there doesent seem to be any leeks on any of the hoses it just seems to be building up presure and making the water come from the top of the resovoir!! could it be a dodgy cap. i have also checked for air locks and have just replaced thermostat!

Think you may have finished off the fan viscous coupling when you took it off to change the stat.
