finally got a mot done on my car since the 2.8 conversion,,
the first attempt was a total fail as on entering the test center i took a chunk out of the new concrete ramp/slope, leading in to the garage, i think the owner of the garage could of been mates with a few people off here..lol as after scraping my way in, he took one look at the slammed rust covered car and refused to do the mot and sent me on my way.. bastad lol.. so a few days later and at another mot station , i have my result, not bad really so should have all work done in a few days, rear tyres . they were prob alright when i left the house but it was the first drive on a good road with the new engine ha ha, only other thing was the rear subframe to car bushes and a bit of welding where i put the car jack in the wrong place, shame as this will be the first bit of welding on the car, not bad for a car that looks as rusty as mine,

The stereotypical views of some MOT testers make me laugh sometimes. I once took a rover (don't laugh) for MOT and he wouldn't touch it because it was stripped out and rattle canned black. What he didn't know is that the only part on the car that wasn't new or refurbished was the shell, and it had a rebuilt 250bhp engine. Took it to a station down the road and it flew through with no advisories

The point is it's not a wreck, it's been built to achieve a desired effect. This is just another case of an MOT testers pre misconceptions. The fact is he did himself out of business thinking he'd be spending 3 hours filling in a failure sheet, when in fact it's actually a solid well put together car and probably would have fared better than a lot of the shed's the guy probably puts a ticket onrhubarb wrote:An Mot tester refusing to test a scabby looking wreck, whatever next

Would the tester fail a car because it " looked" like it would fail

there is definitely, IMO, a mix in how well MOt testers do their job.
iv had various experiences my previous MOT on another e30 was a right pain, as according to the muppet testing yellow headlights are illegal. so had to spend time searching the MOT regulations to prove to the MT tester they are in fact perfectly legal. amazing really he was so bothered about that he didn't even notice the horn didn't work

More than likely he didn't want too test due too the car being low, we have has too refuse cars at work because they are too low to get on our ramp, one car damaged the brake roller tester dropping into it!

Ive had an MOT tester go over a mondeo twice as he said it looked like it should be parked in the local scrapie but the only thing he could fail it on was a crack in the windscreen.
It was just a car we used for work an old Diesel mondeo that had dents on every panel and had been through the wars but it never missed a beat and was great on the old cheery aid

You can judge a book by its cover. Cars that look rubbish invariably are. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but in this care very seldom.

There is also a high chance that if you own a dog, your car will fail.pacerpete wrote:You can judge a book by its cover. Cars that look rubbish invariably are. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but in this care very seldom.

work booked in for the weekend as haven't got time to do it myself, cant wait to get it back, still cant believe after all the going on about how rusty these cars can be and that being as low as it is will not ride correctly{might have finished the bushes off though lol} i thought for sure i would've had more issues other than a 3" hole in the sill and some bushes.. well stoked, guess its not true that any cheap e30 is a bridge dogging turd, one solid little car with low miles and now the power it deserved with its m52 and total so far is about a £1,200, plus what ever the work for rear poly bushes is going to cost. It seemed to fit on the ramp and rollers in the next mot station fine and to me was clearly a case of judging a book by its cover, his bloody job is too test cars and if it was something he did not like the look of should of been happy to take my money and fail it, instead he has lost out on money from me and prob a lot of my customers once i tell them the story of the narrow minded little sh1t lol..

so you took a rusty looking car for the MOT on slammed/cut springs ruined the garages concrete ramp and and he turned you away ?taylorstattoo wrote:finally got a mot done on my car since the 2.8 conversion,,

jesus that is unfair, but then you mention a few days later you had your first decent drive to another garage but arrived with bald tyres? did you tow it to the first garage ?
none of the above makes sense, or did i miss something ? how can a car need welding where you incorrectly placed the jack did you go through the floor ?

the springs are not cut and are of the correct rating for the weight of the car, fully loaded and bouncing up and down the tyres do not come in contact with the car at any point and the dampers have enough travel, the concrete ramp into the garage would have been fine if not laid by blind gypsys, this first garage is only 2mins away from me in a built up area so could not open it up, second one was in the next town about 8 miles away, seeing im only allowed to drive the car too and from the test center with no mot this was the first time for a good drive in the car with the new engine, as for tyres, due to the lowness, the rear camber is out big time meaning the inside is wearing out quicker, i did not realize the tread was as low as it was as for a pass only three quarters of the tread needs to be of legal tread, new rubber is on order but was hoping to get mot then finish them off having a bit of fun with the new motor befor fitting the new ones, hope that clears things up for you .. lol.. ohh, and yes in a rush to raise the car while fitting the engine with nothing but a shit jack and some old tyres i put the jack under the wrong part of the sill.. cut springs,, tut tut !!!

Just because you own a dog your car won't fail.Jim320i wrote:Ill never get an mot on that basis thencapnmchl wrote:There is also a high chance that if you own a dog, your car will fail.pacerpete wrote:You can judge a book by its cover. I may have to start hitting my dogs with hammers come mot time...
The main logic is that from my experience, the majority of dog owners own fucking heaps of shit and are willing to spend hundreds on their dog but not on their car. Also, the cars are usually pretty disgusting inside.
They're usually the first to moan when their car breaks down as well.
Just my observations
