.....a standard sized stainless steel exhaust that isn't any louder than a standard mild steel one for my 325i sport ?

Given that the OEM exhausts last so well and you want a stock sounding system - why Stainless?

I've replaced the OEM system a few months ago because it was blowing. The one I've got now is sort of fine but I've managed to make a mess of the middle box after some "enthusiastic" country road driving and I'm thinking that stainless (damage aside) is a fit and forget

That's shocking.

Pipewerx will custom build and obviously fit an exhaust to your specifications for no more than £550 from the manifold back. That's what I got quoted for a manifold back, twin 70mm exit, using 2" stainless pipe.

I can vouch that their work is second to none, whereas I've heard a few bad reviews about longlife

I bought a mint looking precat front section off ebay to decat mine and the baffels have gone sounds like a moggie minnor winkeye
Anyone know who makes the original pipes for BMW?
