A friend of mine went to buy this car from chester at the weekend - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-318i-Conv ... 1c32081a2a
It was an absolute disgrace, very very bad respray, lots of filler, mis-matched interior, insufficient history. steer well clear
He's now looking at this one this evening, does anyone know it or can anyone confirm whether it is actually a motorsport? I know it's in High wycombe which by experience is not a good start but he likes the look of it and it's only 15 miles away

You need the vin to know for sure. I dont know how its done but some of the guys on here can check the vin to see what it left the factory as.
Looks the part but its on gumtree, which says the seller cant even afford a decent ad... make your own conclusions though.

The advert doesn't say it's a 'motorsport'. It says it's motorsport spec. I.e. An ordinary cab with the 'motorsport' extras fitted retrospectively.

Looking for a nice auto cabriolet. facelift.
anyone know of anything going?
he doesn't really have a budget so anything is considered.

Its was originally a 325i Motorsport one of the last 50 produced in Mauritius blue and calypso red but the original Motorsport was rotten so they transferred all parts over to a new shell and added the Motorsport engine and gearbox, the MTECH 2 Bodykit, so is a Motorsport in one sense considering the engine and gearbox are genuine from a motorsport and all original kit, but on a different e30 shell, if that makes any sense..

Putting the engine and box from a motorsport into a non motorsport does not make it a motorsport in any sense. There was no difference between a standard 325i mechanically to a motorsport (bar an LSD and sports suspension)jay-786 wrote:Its was originally a 325i Motorsport one of the last 50 produced in Mauritius blue and calypso red but the original Motorsport was rotten so they transferred all parts over to a new shell and added the Motorsport engine and gearbox, the MTECH 2 Bodykit, so is a Motorsport in one sense considering the engine and gearbox are genuine from a motorsport and all original kit, but on a different e30 shell, if that makes any sense..
Unfortunately, the scumtree ad has disappeared so canot see the car but if is had all the motorsport interior and the tech 2 kit added to the non MS shell then yes, it would make a fair replica. But just the kit and the running gear? = just another messed up convertible really.
Finding good nice originals is now like a needle in a haystack. They are all 20+ years old now and the vast majority have been through multiple owners of varying wealth / age profiles.
Having said that, if the OP is looking for a "nice" auto convertible, neither the link to the first car or (by the feeling I get for) the second car should have been any reason to leave the house for.
