Are Dexron 2 and 3 compatible for using in an e30's PAS system?

IIRC you should use Dexron 2 for an e30, but I've got half a litre of 3 in the shed and was hoping to put that in and top up with 2 if that was ok to do so.

Should be fine, dexron 3 superseeds 2 so shouldn't cause any issues.

Backwardly compatible. You can use Dextron III in place of Dextron II, and mixed with it, but you shouldn't use Dextron II where Dextron III is specified.

That's great thanks, I read someone online that not all Dexrons are compatible so thought I'd better check. My gearbox should have Dexron 2 in, so I should be fine putting 3 in by the sounds of it, means I can get a gallon of it and not mess about with 1 litre containers :)

You will find that most motorparts places dont even stock dexron 2 anymore
