Boo!

Been trying to get the car MOT ready for next weekend and have just been checking the lights and other electrical bits and bobs.

Firstly the lights wouldn't work, although this was traced to the immobiliser which seems to immobilise more than just the engine!

However, the washer motor doesn't seem to want to work :(

When the lever is pulled, there's the delay and then the wipers start up, but that's it!

The other thing is that when I do the single swish thing by pushing the lever down, the wipers move really jerkily and you can hear the relay having a fit too.

Anyone reckon these problems are related?

Don't suppose anyone's got a part number for the relay have they? Wanna get this sorted before the weekend!

Cheers!

Ive never seen a faulty wiper relay, its usually the motors themselves,
As long as they work it will pass an mot,
dont need the intermitent to pass 8)

Thought that the wash function needed to work too?

Reason I reckon it might be the relay is that it doesn't click when the lever is pulled. Nothing inside it looks burned out though (not that I could really tell just by looking  )

Oh yeah  sorry mate
Check the connector for power first and take it from there really :D
The wiper motor relay is the long black one in the fuse box

Washer motor is worked directly from the washer switch, without any intervention from the relay. Pull out the relay, and earthing pin 86 of the socket with the ignition on should make the washer pump work.
If it doesn't, then the power either isn't getting to the pump, or the pump is dud.
Your other problems are probably due to hardened grease in the wiper gearbox.

The water motor for the headlamp wash/wipe is controlled by the Right headlamp wiper motor. So you might want to check the blue wire and contact coming out of the right wiper motor.

Think my car predates the headlamp wash-wipe thing. Will have to test the motor then as it's getting 12v and there's continuity to the earth in the fuse box.

Just wonder why the relay goes mad when the wipers do
