its got a lovely noise though.my old golf vr6 was amazing and so underrated.looked like a standard gti but had a towbar and subtle little vr6 badges.idiots in 1.0 corsas would always try amd race it.best thing was i only paid 400quid for itRosc0PColtrane wrote:Is it f00k!! My bro has one. Yeah, they do sound great, but for a mega thirsty V6, it should be murdering 325i's, but it doesn't. Isn't it a really old donk too?? very heavy, fwd turd. handles like a pi55ed fat chick on ice chasing down a big mac.sunnysr wrote:Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Is it f00k!! my old vr6 was lighting quick for what it was.there were two types i think.one was 12v and then later ones were 24v but still operated by two camshafts.is a quite cool design really. Also did a 2.8 and 2.9 version tooRosc0PColtrane wrote:My bro has one. Yeah, they do sound great, but for a mega thirsty V6, it should be murdering 325i's, but it doesn't. Dear lord, thats just wrong putting a derv in a 'Rado.sunnysr wrote:Haha yes thats what i said he got the car for under a grand it had a vr6 motor fitted and a spare one in the boot ,what he should have done is fitted the otherone in the back and had double vr6 even just for the sound alone ,his mate Kris who works out of the same unit is more the vw man he has a few mk1 golfs in there and stuff
Don't get me wrong, I've just read all the comments about the VR lump, and it's not that powerful for the mpg returned, but that noise! It's the only reason I tolerate the 20mpg average that I return on my commute.

Nice to come across this! Mike Hill's metalwork is insane. The metal valentines day roses he did last week were so good!
The Rado TDi should be interesting.. Not sure what spec Kris has planned for it though?

This is looking good! I think if I had one wish it would be to have fab and welding skills like that!! I'm quite liking the way the rear wheels sit in the arches to be honest, it's like an e-type on spacers!
Regarding the 'rado, I've got a mk2 jetta with a VR in it, and I'm in the process of a PD130 conversion! I agree with the VR haters if I'm honest, it sounds great, makes you feel 17 again as you go wheelspinning of up the road sounding like a really pissed off lion, but it underwhelmed me in the get up and go stakes. And mine is in a mk2 platform! Lacking compared to a strong m20b25 IMHO, I'm positive my 325 would see it off in a straight line.
The PD when well mapped will be seeing upwards of 175 horses and nigh on twice the torque of the gimmicky staggered 6, while doing over 45 miles to every gallon of the white stuff.
Back on topic! Can't wait for this BMuar to get to paint stage, FairPlay your mate doesn't mess about!

a little update of this ,not much e30 related
the bonnet sat a little low to clear the strut towers on the e30 and instead of lifting the body to clear it and making the stance look a bit funny on the car mike has reshaped the bonnet (the bonnet was just about scrap when mike got it ,it has took alot of work to get it even straight and looking right and things)
see the circle near the hammer ...thats where the strut top is

Now the geeza who is getting the car built is supplying some of the gear ,he could only get a short door for the drivers side SO it was down to mike to make it into a long door ...that is no way as easy as it should be ,also these old cars were not made like new cars every panel on every one is different that is very apparent with even the boot lid the holes for the hinge are in a totally different place on the car and the boot lid he has been supplied with .
recess required for door post

Bonnet mounted and a hinge made too

Thats the lot for now ,i went and seen it the other day and he has done more but i didnt take any pics i got too distracted talking .

i'm following this on instagram....
seems to be something quite a few people are trying... was reading a write up on edition38 yesterday of a chap doing who for a guy who rolled his evo 9 and so they're using the engine, floorpan and running gear of the evo and placing an old '61 mercedes ponton shell on it.

I do like the look of that and being an ex evo owner myself i can see the appeal .
some more ,engine is back in you can see the panels he has made around the back of the engine these are kinda space fillers but also will hide the battery and some other bits

sills boxed ageing process under way (its how the owner likes/wants it looking old and like its just out of a field )

all fitting in a bit better more flush

all lines will be internal for cosmetic reasons

inner arches made

some DEEP sill`s

So, it's going to be a bit of a rat look car then?

PONY, 2013 - "Anyway span 360 degrees hitting the kerb and giving the old man two fingers as I was spinning like Michael Schumacher would
looks that way for now i think the final decision will be made when its all done and sat there the owner wanted it to look like its unloved from the outside until you look closer and the rat stuff is kind of mikes style ,but as you can see its not the rat look of just a low cost bodge up ....i think when its done it will all go one colour as it would look wrong looking like a patchwork quilt

I like the rat look. It works for me especially of the interior is super slick, along with very expensive wheels.

Well this is going to have a set of banded steels on the back for some wider wheels it look good to me how it is even with the bbs`s on with the wider than jag track but here are the pics

The rear end around the numberplate i cant remember if i put a pic of this area up before but it was gone underneath now its all new and behind the number plate is a hidden tow bar point .

The rear arches have been flared out around 2"

Engine bay under the silver panels are the brake cylinder, battery and other bits

Boot lid made to fit this you would have thought was from a different car the mounting places were miles out like a good few inch and it didnt shut straight but all sorted now .

This is so epic, and yet all I can think is "how's he going to get the fuel from that filler cap to the E30 tank stub pipe?"

Been following this on FB, Mike's fabrcation skills know no limit! Brilliant stuff!

M50B25NonVanos & M52B28Vanos Heads for sale. Pm Me.
I was down his place the other day having a look at it and said he needs to update facebook more but he doesn't like it. I should take some pics really because there is loads of mad little intricate bits he doesn't bother to photo that are the real stand out work. He should be working in some American hotrod shop for big money rather than a little workshop in Middlesbrough.
HAHAHa that i hadnt even thought of,I was asking about the fuel tank and he is using the e30 one ,he will fab something up i will have to get some pics of that bit for you when its done .Grrrmachine wrote:This is so epic, and yet all I can think is "how's he going to get the fuel from that filler cap to the E30 tank stub pipe?"

The banded steels look great, and somewhat reminiscent of the Dunlop alloys fitted to racing E-type Jags. What are they from - a Peugeot/Citroen?
