What could I make out of of these bits?

Bit of title stealing from maggspower in a recent thread there.


I have a shell at the minute that has no engine. It's an old car of mine that I tracked down through multiple owners and it's very, very abused and worn out so will require much fixing - and an engine.
It was a 2.5 originally. Because the engine was robbed, I have carte blanche to play with it.


Now, this is what I have "in stock".

Complete high miler M50B25 from E34 '94
Block and ancillaries (no head or head parts) from M52B28 '96
Complete good M52tuB28 auto from E39 '99
Complete S50B30 from E36 '94 with bottom end gone
S/S Turbo Manifold

Apart from gaskets, and maybe a turbo, I don't want to be buying anything much for it. Can I make something out of that lot? Don't care about reliability as I have an Alfa V6 for that (yes really) so lets just chase some power. Main thing is which crank and rods and pistons to use to give the best mix of capacity and comp ratio for the turbo, or should I leave the turbo out, build a stroker and buy a cheap NAWS kit?

Slightly miffed that I just sold both S50 and S52 gearboxes too, will have to find an m50 box outside somewhere.

Failing that I'll just boink an M62 into it, but the floor is open for now on the M52 front. thanks.

Bore of the S50 engine is 86mm, and none of the pistons from the other engines will fit that. Stroke is also 85.6mm, and the closest is the crank from the M52 at 84mm, but still not long enough unless you want very low compression. To make it work you'll have to buy some parts such as custom pistons, which means $$$.

You can put the non-Vanos M50 head onto the M52 you've got, but then you're looking at a custom ECU to make it run.

Power-wise, I'd say it's worth spending to get that S50 engine back into running order - 90hp and 40Nm more than any M5x engine you've got there.
