Driving around tonight & all of a sudden I could feel the car was't running right.

I would have the throttle pedal right to the floor & it would start bunny hopping or do nothing at all.
There is no problem with the idle, but it almost feels like its misfiring.
Pulled over & held the throttle open until it seemed to fully rev properly again.
Drove it home, but it still felt like it was missing & it wouldn't rev as it should.
This has happened a couple of times over the last few months.
Gonna check the cap & rotor tomorrow during the day with more light.
Plugs & leads are all good.

Anything else I should chack that may be causing this issue???

Could this be caused by a dodgy afm, if so, any way of checking?

Mine drove like that with the AFM disconnected so it could be that, but you may also have popped off or cracked one of the intake/vacuum hoses which would probably give the same effect.

I'll check these out & replace where necessary, cheers.

Just had a good poke around the engine bay & noticed the rubber boot connecting the afm to the throttle body wasn't fitted correctly, removed it, checked for cracks, splits etc.
Whilst it was off, I cleaned the inside of the throttle body, then attached the rubber boot correctly.

Took the touring for a spin & noticed the throttle response was so much better straight away.
So far so good, will go for another run shortly to check if it's all good.

Would my 86 325i Cab have this (or the same type thing) located near the bulkhead, by the fuse box ?
