what does the tool look like, as i just used a screwdriver when i did mine.imposible to fit without the correct tool

I fitted a new rear one on my car, didn't have a fitting tool and just about managed it with a blunt screwdriver some lube and an old filler spreader. I did my one on a cold day and cracked the chrome inside a bit on the corners. I guess you need to put the trim in a bucket of hot water or do it on a hot day to stop this happening.

it's a small diamond shaped piece ov wire with a handle,i just used a welding rod bent to shape and a old file handle and some washing up liquid ,there's to much risk ov a screwdriver sliping and scraching the paint work(and it only took about 20 mins to do)
