So I went to fit my new oil spray bar on my m10 engine today, not realising that the old bar is clamped down onto the engine by two big sprung pieces of metal held down by the headbolts. I've tried moving it with my hands to no avail.

Is it better to try and 'persuade' the spray bar to come out with the clamps in place, or to slacken off and undo all the headbolts and remove the 4 holding the clamps down like intended?

I can see persuading it out will possibly result in damage and a tough time reinserting the new one. Taking off the cam sprocket could make it slightly easier. However, undoing the headbolts to change an oil spray bar seems a bit excessive.

Anyone with prior experience want to divulge any information?

Is yours Injected or Carb, Cap?
Won,t make any difference to the question, I don,t suppose,
but might help me with any future probs as there is a distinct lack of info
on these old donks.

Rob.

Mine is carbed, but I've gone to a 32/36DGV rather than the normal 32/24DMTL conversion. As good as this place is, it does lack in the M10 knowledge department. However, the Americans do love them due to their obsession with 2002's, so a quick google finds you most of the information you need to know.

I wish someone would come in here and maybe give us a hint winkeye

Thankfully I have not worked on one of these in a while :) I recall that to remove the oil feed pipe you remove the banjo bolt (be sure to check and refit the two alloy crush washers) and then tap the pipe rearwards (iirc) until it is free of the front 'strap' and then gently lift and pull it forward until it is clear of the back strap.
No need to disturb head bolts !

I would not drill the holes any bigger, just give it a good soaking with brake cleaner / petrol and blow it out with an airline.

I cannot remember if an M10 feed pipe is directional , so be sure to check by laying it upside down across the head and making sure the holes line up with the cam lobes. M30 spraybars are directional and if you fit them back to front no 1 exhaust lobe gets no oil and quickly disappears. It used to be quite a common mistake back in the day :(

That is along the lines I was thinking pete. I didn't think the spring clamps would be so tight on it though. Tried shoving it back to pop it out and bring forward but couldn't budge it. The pipe is longer on one end than the other, so it'll only go in one way. I've got a new one to go on anyway so no need to drill stuff out for me, along with new banjo bolt and washers. I'll have another bash on saturday with my trusty hammer.

Cheers for that Pete.
