Hi everyone..
Ever since owning the sport i have had an awful modern '///m' grill badge, been gagging for an authentic one since day one..
Can somebody confirm there was a factory/original badge?? other than the '///M3' badge
From what i recall they were square moulded with two metal clips on the rear and the bmw serial, but always seem pricey..

I dont think they ever left the factory with ///M badges, I believe they were fitted at the dealers.
As a side note, I dont have a genuine grill badge, but I do have a genuine ///M boot badge, £15 posted

Nothing 'M' about a Sport, so it shouldn't have a 'M' badge fitted, although, as said above, plenty left the dealers with one.

I got mine off ebay, was quality and metal and still looks the part, although that being said, I wouldn't know the difference between a genuine and fake necessarily anyway.

I bought a new one from the dealer when it was in for the bodywork. Can't remember how much as I bought hundreds of things and it won't be on the receipt.

Eh ? The 2 original e30 types the m3 one and the M/// one , which was the dealer fit to all sports oneharry_p wrote:the tec 1 doesnt have an M, just the stripe colours
All last year they were NLA , I don't think you can get them new anymore unless at some point they make a new batch
Makes me laugh when people say its wrong to put them on a sport, when it had Mtech kit with stickers , mtech suspension and Mtech steering wheel and gear knob with M branding, ... Imagine 25 years ago if anyone on here bought a sport brand new and you went to pick it up from
Your dealer after the wait ... And it had one on the grille, would you drive he far home and remove it ??? Never...

I paid £20 posted from a frag, reasonable condition.
I have the 'M' on the kit, steering, knob etc... Some left dealers with the grill badge..
That'll do me.

i was answering the post directly above mine which said tech1 and 2 steering wheels had the m emblem. they dont, the tech 1 wheel just has the stripes, not the letter, as do the early mtech gearknobs.polsta wrote:Eh ? it was only later on when the M became more about branding than the parts they started plastering it on everything.
my e30 m3 only has m3 badges front and rear and a little m in the instrument cluster. my e36 m3 has about a million m badges plastered all over the place
And yes, I would have removed any badges not supposed to be there, along with any dealer stickers, tax disk holders etc.
cheers,

Im sure the Tech-2 body kit was developed by some M types in a wind tunnel.
If you like the badge, rock one.
If you dont them come on here and bitch about it.

The M on a sport, refers to M Technic. The M on an M3 refers to BMW Motorsport two entirely different things! Don,t be fooled into thinking they are the same thing because the logo's are the same colours. That is what i have always belived to be the case. A bit like Comparing Armani jeans and Giogio Armani, both owned by the same company but marketed to different clientele.

M tech kit and bolt ons is slightly different than the actual m division that built proper cars, also sports never came with m branded gear knobs iirc. I think most of he 5 speed ones are from e36's I could be wrong just never seen one on the spec sheet.polsta wrote:

They are not e36 knobs , they had M stripes across the top corner
Anyway who cares , BMW clearly intended the Mbadge for cars other than the M3 hence making the 2 different types and also the dealers fitting them

The M technic 2 package was released in '88.
The M technic 2 kit was developed to improve aerodynamics of the E30 and reduces drag and increases down force as did the tech 1 kit and the tech 2 what you call progress.
These kits (and Alpina spoilers) are functional and were developed in a wind tunnel, not just stuck on to look good!

I know the ones you mean, round tops like the dog leg, never seen them as standard on a sport though.

M-Technic is the brand name of sporting accessories designed by Motorsport but fitted to standard BMW models.

Have m gearknob, have m steering wheel, have m bodykit - need m badge glued to the boot and grille to tell the whole world about them
how about an ABS badge off an early 90s vauxhall to tell the world your car has abs? Maybe a 'front foglights fitted' sticker for the bootlid?

Was the M535i and M5? No. Still rocked the badges from the factory though.
I think a tech 1 or 2 can wear them with pride. A stated they do have the suspension, kits, steering wheels, black headliners, LSD's etc. And the early motorsport convertibles even wore M Technic door sill strips and the bubble leather was in vogue also.

Ok gr ... Why did Bmw make an "m///" badge ?? When the m3/5 had their own respective badges
