Roll cage padding

What sort of cage padding are people running? I've been looking at the quite thick 'FIA' spec stuff, there's also some thinner high density padding available from SD. But the price per M is a tad high so wanted to see what y'all are doing on that front? Any pics and measurements would be appreciated.

Does it need to be FIA approved? I've got some padding I bought from Demon Tweeks or JJC I think, that isn't FIA approved, but tbh I think it is just high density pipe lagging! Works well though, although I realise if it is pipe lagging it will never be as good as absorbing impacts as proper cage padding.

The thing with the FIA stuff is it is harder wearing than the standard pipe lagging type stuff you mention as that tents to snag.

Got some fia fire retardant onmine bud from dt.got 2 lengths did my door bar and above my head pics in my build thread.still managed to take chunks off with my foot tho so not indestructable

I got a couple of lengths of this Longacre padding from Custom Cages in the end.



£18 per meter, still thick but its a bit softer than the rock hard FIA spec stuff so all round pretty good. Not sure I'll need both lengths but cost the same to do that than buy 1 length of the FIA stuff

I lobbed some plumbing insulation that was surpless from my last project on mine and its great. Fire resitant too as it had to meet the fire regs, cheap too

I think it plays a larger role in the way it absorbs impacts, this is why the FIA padding is soooo heavy!

The Sparco stuff is high density polystyrene we used it on the Nissans it wasn't too heavy to be honest.
