There is a set of door builds on E-bay. I would find the link but after looking through 1583 E30 related items yesterday I kind of have lost the will to livedark_sounds wrote:need to fit in 16.5 cm speakers... first e30,, only had it for a day,,, can i get door pods? audioscape?? or something???

i took some pictures but they only go to prove what i already know and have already publicly stated on this forum - i am no photographer. truly i am rubbish at taking flattering pictures, they really do look so much better than these pictures show.
i really wanted them trimmed in black to match the door handles. the trimmer and i agreed that the material he used was black before he did the job. it really was black too i would have bet my right arm on it being black. but by a happy quirk of fate the material colour exactly matches the dash colour so they look great when seen in context. (this is the second builds for my e30 and this colour thing happened the first time too - different trimmer, different material but exactly the same result. what gives?)
the picture doesn't show it but these are quite close to being on-axis. they are significantly angled up into the cabin:
build top with door closed
i didn't even get the primed build to sit straight. tch.
new build in primer
i've included this one as for my own personal motor i have cut this hole through the door card and fabricated a flass fibre rain 'canopy' on the inside of the card. i then cleaned and dynamatted the outer door skin (double thickness behind the speaker area). (then i waxoyled in there) then i cut out every inner door skin hole in thick see-through plastic sheet and silicone sealed all these in place before dynamatting this door skin too, except for the porting hole. the door card with build attached was then fitted and secured with a screw to the door skin. it is all most solid and gives superb sound quality as anyone who has attended a southern meet on here will testify no doubt. it's a fair amount of work though and perhaps best undertaken during the warmer months.
door card cut for porting
offside build
near side build

i want 30 for a pair. that would be in primer. i can get them trimmed for you but it would be at your expense not mine and money up front - i've already put a lot of time and effort into these for people that said they would have them and haven't and i won't be caught out again. i paid 50 for my pair to be trimmed and he's about 20 miles away so that's 80 miles worth of fuel. there is a more local trimmer but frankly he's not as good, but he is cheaper.
postage is Ԛ£7.20, collection is fine by me.

daz - 6 1/2 or 17cm inch drivers.
dark_sounds - yes screwed through the door cards. door cards are not rare enough yet for this to be an issue - i got my cards from my local scrappy and have a mint set as spare for re-instating should i sell the car minus system. i have them screwed to the inner door skin too, very solid.
daved - will do, thanks.

yep that's right - plus the postage on top unless you're planning on a visit.....
i'm aware that the cost adds up but start costing them up from audioscape or audiosport and mine start to look very cheap indeed. the audiosport pods are painted btw, painting them yourself might be a consideration if cost is an issue.
there's no reason why trimming couldn't be done by yourself if you're handy enough. i could trim them in acoustic carpet very easily, standard carpet probably too but i leave vinyl to the pros - i'm a firm believer that a good man knows his limits and trimming using vinyl is one of mine...
i guess my local trimmer would be 35 quid if you want him to do it. he's alright but the 50 quid guy is just superb, all the seams are straight as dyes etc etc.
