Replacing M40 16.i with M10 1.8i, help needed

ive been given a 316i which had a m40 1.6i, but has had a M10 1.8i engine fitted, the lad who owned it gave up when it came to wiring it in. could anyone tell me if this is possible as the injection systems seem quite different and the loom has the electronic ignition system.

rip it back out and put another M40 baqck in,1.6 or 1.8 much easier

would it not be worth thinking about webbers or any other carb or is it a shite engine, i just need it running while i sort out a m42 lump?

no i dont think they are crap engines,quite the opposite i believe but surely less work etc putting an M40 back in!Especially if your going to go down M42 route at some point.

thanx, while we are here which engine would you reccomend down the line, i was thinking m42/44, i would like to stick to 4cyl

well i suppose best going for M42 as these are quite readilly available!

i got g reg 316i m40 i think and its got a knockin noise i would like to put an m40 318i engine in can i keep my lazy boy box or do i have to go manual i seen one on here just need some info on fittin it to mine what needs changing cheers
