As above, is there an upgrade or do I just need to get a new pump?

The washer fluid kind of trickles onto the windscreen rather than sprays.

get a pin and clean the washer jets, you can aim the direction again when they are cleaned out as your bound to move the nozzles when doing this.

Keep meaning to see if the citroen xsara ones fit in the E30 bonnet holes. They give a lot better spray pattern

This is the most likely scenario, followed by a failing pump. Nozzles would be the last thing I'd check.hongkongfuey wrote:check the washer hoses are not crushed or folded

I want to get hold of some Ford or Citroen mist type as that seem like a better idea and I don't need to sit there for hours with a pin directing. Also seems like a sensible idea with the cab as it'll mean I don't cover myself in a jet of fluid ever.Andy325i wrote:Keep meaning to see if the citroen xsara ones fit in the E30 bonnet holes. I want to get the type that some French turds use that spray from the wipers. Will be useful as my bonnet is on pins

pipes aren't going to suddenly crush themselves and you know if the pump isn't working by lack of a buzz coming from it .
out of all the e30's i've had [over 25] if the washers didn't work it's been down to the none return valve leaking and my own washer jets have glogged up more than once .
just speaking from experience

Speaking as an ex mechanic, probably 50% of cars in for a service spray better once you have poked a pin down and blown out the spray nozzle (was one of the steps of a service) so I would definitely check it first, followed by the return valve.

Are the return valves meant to relieve pressure if the nozzles are blocked? Mine seem to have small holes drilled in them which fire water at the bulkhead unless I keep the nozzles really clean....

i think you need a new one Miles ,this is what happened to mine even with clear jets, those holes are there for a reason so you could be right .Morat wrote:Are the return valves meant to relieve pressure if the nozzles are blocked?
