Hi,

I have just removed the dash from my car for some major stripping (its a track car so all weight counts).

Got the dash out and thought I would try starting the car.

Anyway turned ignition on and tried windscreen wipers to see if I had screwed anything..They worked..BONUS. So time to try and start the car. Click then nothing. At this point no electrics worked at all (wipers, windows etc.) Everything was dead. Turning ignition off and on didn't fix anything. No fuses appeared to have blown.

So I disconnected and reconnected the battery and the same thing happened.

Disconnected and reconnected again and the car started.

Now my car has the sigma alarm and immobiliser built in (1990 318is). Is this the immobiliser causing all the power to be shut off or does it just control the power to the fuel pump?

Don't want to keep trying the above in case I end up knackering the ECU or something (i.e. fire)

I think I have got a short somewhere but wondered if anyone has any idea on this and whether the immobiliser is causing it. I never tried setting and unsetting the alarm between each go and if it was the immobiliser was wondering whether this would or would not have overcome me having to disconnect and reconnect the battery.

Also how easy is it to remove the immobiliser and alarm completely (I don't expect this information to be posted on here but any PM's in the right direction would be appreciated).

Thanks
