I'm currently running a m42 block, amazing mpg and pretty lively.

But im going to turn 25 this year, so will be getting classic insurance and running another car as a daily.
My friend has a stag and we were at the lights a few days back and his made a lovely burble and made an even lovelier noise when moving off, loud enough to be appreciated without going over board. I know its a v8 and they make a sweet sound, but im after something that sounds lovely too.
Im getting older so im now into keeping the windows closed and turning the heating on, cruising instead of speeding, listening to music where the singer talks sense rather then waffling on about money, hoes, and murder.
Plus i hate people complimenting my car and then asking what litre it is, I have to tell them its a 1.8 you should see their faces, and their reply 'Oh really thought it would have been bigger'. Then i have explain why the m42 is a good engine lol

Thinking of going down the m30 route as it has a nice exhaust note 8).

Any other suggestions
:D

Got a girlfriend, cherry popped years ago and i'd rather 'waste' my money on my car then spend it on anything else.

I could piss my wages up the wall on weekend benders, or gambling, drugs, expensive clothes etc

But i'd rather drive up to the pub in my car for a weekend pint then come home pissed and calling my mates the next day to update me on what happended
I'd rather bet someone I can beat then off the lights then stick my money into a ladbrokes roulette machine
I'd rather stay on the ground and drive my car then be high and out of this world on drugs
I'd rather wear a primark t-shirt and buy some car bits then have a gucci shirt that i will end up spilling food on

:D you call it wasting money, i see it as it could have went to something worse..

It all depends on budget and how much you can diy.
BMW or other?
FI or N/A?
4/6/8/12 cylinders?
M or S series engine?
How much power do you want?

I'd want a bmw engine, and want it to look oem so i don't really want to go for a m50/2 s50

I am thinking either a m20 or m30 as they are engines that have been fitted to e30s when they left the factory.

Im not too fussed about power as its a cruiser, but obv some power wouldn't go a miss. I've been in shaz's m60 e30 that thing is stomach turning fast which would be far too much for me. And going down the turbo charging road like indy, i think would bring out the bad driver in me

Those were EXAMPLES of WORSE ways I think money can be spent, I don't really want to bore myself and others by listing a wider range of things money can be spent on....

if you haven't got anything nice to say don't say anything at all, because your comment was depressing as well as irrelevant

There's a big run-down of the engine swaps in the Wiki:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... gine_Swaps

although not all of the installation guides are finished yet. But its possible to fit an M5x engine that looks factory, so don't write them off immediately.

Go for a m20 325i or M30.

Get either engine and re build it properly. Will give a nice amount of torque and both are good for cruising around in.
Mind u, i'v always wanted a 335i E30!

I was thinking in the future of getting the e30 2.7i 225bhp engine, then later on if Im bored supercharge it and get close to 300hp out of it.

Havent fully looked into the ins and outs of it yet, but this way you keep e30 parts and still have more than enough power unless your looking for something ridiculous for track use.

2.7i producing 225bhp????

What engine will u be using? An alpina one or a fully worked and stroked M20?
Either one... Will cost you a fair bit to get that power standard from a M20
A 525e bottom end with a 320 or 325 head will not give u that figure. Although will give plenty of torque and will pee over a standard 325i but 225bhp is being abit dreamy without spending big

To get that power your looking at ported head, cam, mapping, bottom end work,my mate Yas
Has had that all done and I reckon it's pushing somewhere near there or even more
On his m20 2.7

Probably similar bhp to a 325i but the 2.7 prodcues
More torque... Just before i did my 2.7 conversion, a zoner told me "Bhp is boys talk at the pub, Torque is a mans game" lol

Yeah as indy says... Head work, a cam, block decking. While your doing that, you may as well lighten and balaned the crank. So it all really depends on how much you want to spend..

If you want a 'normal' Cab...

...you can't go too far wrong with an M20...the noise is hilariously fun and as my car is toy only I don't care about the 23mpg I've averaged over the last two tanks. :D

When sat at lights it burbles a bit, it shouts when you give it a boot full and you can really hear it with the roof down. :P

Oh and my exhaust is a mild steel unit, ECP back box which is really old...as far as I can work out, the car is basically running straight through pipes as it sounds like the baffles in the mid and back box are gone. :D

I'm 26 and have my E30 on a normal policy as I changed to it when I sold my other car. Once this policy is up I'll be getting another 'normal' one rather than classic as I want some of the bonuses like DOC etc. still.

Personally, I think M50's look the nuts when done properly and can look factory.

So I'd say that, or an M20 stroker
