So half way through the job I find out the Laser branded 36mm socket I have is too thick-walled to fit the front hub nut. Does anyone know of an alternative that is slender enough? Sealey / Draper ones look like they might do but are hard to judge from images.

That is exactly what I'd do if the socket was mine, but unfortunately it's been borrowed.Brianmoooore wrote:Nothing a few minutes with a bench grinder wont cure.TheDutch wrote:So half way through the job I find out the Laser branded 36mm socket I have is too thick-walled to fit.

So is mine! A nice 3/4" one, borrowed from a neighbour. I ground it down with the intention of buying a nice new one to return, but somehow never got around to to the last bit.TheDutch wrote: unfortunately it's been borrowed.
This was about fifteen ears ago, so I think I may have got away with it!

...and I've just texted the owner proposing that plan too. It'll be modified in the morning and a replacement bought if they want it.Brianmoooore wrote:So is mine! I ground it down with the intention of buying a nice new one to returnTheDutch wrote: unfortunately it's been borrowed.

Halfords ones are nice and thin. Helped me out in a few situations, especially as they're only about £3 with a trade card.

Yep the Halfords socket definitely fits the front hub nuts, I bought one to change my front wheel bearings and it fitted fine
