Well boys I completely ignored your advice cos this little beast popped up

Image

1983 316 ( carbed ) E21, its had 3 owners and has 79K miles. 625 quid including a spare set of wheels ( bottle top alloys ) Its manual, hardly any rust other than the front wing ( i will add photos to show this ) It needs a service and an HT leed and possibly track rod ends, it wouldnt hurt to add a clutch.

It popped up on gumtree last night at 12am, i emailed the guy, he told me to phoned. I came off the phone at 1am..got to sleep at 4am...woke up at 6, my friend Willie drove us down at 8am and I bought it. Dad drove it back and it did it! 200 hundred miles back home

You were all telling me to buy a small car and gain experience! b8ut maybe even an M20 or a more modern 1.8 it would be great. It really is a wee gem but there is a few things to mend. it just doesnt run so smooth but hey it does just find

You're a tw@.....why'd you go and buy an even better base car than you already have? :D

Nice one fella, looks/sounds like it was a bit of a bargain really. 8) Now just make sure you're sensible driving it about and don't slam it on it's arse. :D

Its going to be lowered VERY SLIGHTLY, like a tiny bit. I want nice wheels for it. A heckblende couple interior bits.

As a really novel idea, why not leave it bog standard? Too many E21's are being ruined now (M52, coiloverz, front bumper removed etc etc etc)and it's nice to see a clean standard one.

Or if you do mod it make sure it can be put back to standard within a day, not many of these about nowadays.

Very nice for a first car.

...however, prepare to discover how much of a twat it can be to get parts for these, and how uneasy they are to lower. Also, it will have rust, and the boot will be wet.

Stick with the m10 and chuck a weber on there, although I think these use a single barrelled solex which might make it a twat, although you should be able to use the inlet manifold from an m10 e30 and then use a weber for that without too much hassle. Nice little workhorses and not enough power to get you in trouble.

LOL, just seen it, wasn't on earlier today,.
Verde, nice buy, I saw this too, but don't need another one  .

Changing wheels on these , you need to be aware of the ET.
Because of the way the track rod ends work on these, BBS E30 wheels will fit, but you need 5mm spacers up front, rears will fit.
Anthing 15" or 14" will need a low ofset, normally ET15 or lower,

I have a shed load of parts accumilated over the years for these,
and don't go putting Coilovers on this,
a simple Eibach Progressive spring and a set of Bistiens works wonders on these chariots. :D
