3 set of dash clocks.
[1]That came with the car only the petrol gauge was working.
[2]Bought on ebay 318IS clocks reves running very high as not correct clocks for 325i.And fuel gauge not working.
[3]Bought on ebay from a local seller got it thursday, the guy meet me at bolton hospital as i needed more xrays on my finger to see if all is well.

Well my mate and i decided to fit the new clocks on our own today [how hard can it be].Cut a long story short.
Put the clocks in and nothing worked,i then pulled a fuse type thing out from the front then everthing worked aside from the fuel gauge.
I then striped fuel guage from orginal 325 clock and somehow fitted it to the IS clocks removed the blank from check part on the IS.
The clocks are working fine even the petrol gauge was for a few minutes now it telling me i have a full tank when i should only have a 1/4 plus i cant start the car now the key just rolls freely now does not catch.Knock it about then it starts but as soon as you take keys out and put them back it wont start.

What have i done.
Whats up with the fuel gauge now my head is in bits now car is a mess.

The fuse thing is a coding plug. It tells the cluster how to interpret most of the signals except speed. You can swap it from cluster to cluster, but you should the one that came from your car. The 4 vs 6 cylinder coding will screw up the rev readout big time. Not sure what happens with no plug in. Could screw up the fuel readout, though I have never traced that signal path.

The individual guages are swappable between clusters. I think the only difference between the rev counters is cosmetic - where the red line begins.

The key problem is seperate - the car will run fine even with no cluster plugged in. Sounds like you have a mechanical lock problem.
