picked up a 13 button obc today

not this one, but borrows jonnys pic (pic up this kit in for sale section)

ive put it in the garage, but just seen this pic, and dont remember seeing the black air duct thing, if its for a tech 1 , do i need this bit and what is it ? (and the obc function) or is it for the facelift or non kitted car ? or if i do need it and i have that piece removed fom my car, can it be modded to hold the sensor or whatever it is?

cheers

I think it's for outside air temp. Goes from the bumper duct to the arch liner

i think they are facelift only, don't recall seeing these ducts on my tech 1 but i know the facelift cars have them

have a look on realoem Polsta - might show where the outside temp sensor is fitted on the tech 1 cars

btw, where did you get your kit from, did you get a good price?

Sensor on a pre facelift fits into a hole in the front panel. LH side, under the bumper, IIRC.
It's a different sensor from the one in your pic. and has a different connector, but is electrically the same.

nice one brian thanks, as above with jim could not remember those ducts when taking my car apart but obv they are on the facelift, in that case i have no idea what sensor i have, il get the kit back out the garage and take some pics , is there any other obc differences in pre/post facelift and engine sizes or anything ?

jim i paid £100 for it- complete with stalk gong etc but the button unit is pristine with bright no bleed screen and imaculate buttons with no wear to the paint on them, but had some other results with the obc , making it an all round nice deal

but either way, the sensor fits under the bumper doesnt it as brian says and not on the duct ?

If your car has the ducts with the mounting hole, then fit the sensor you have there.

It's a code you put into the OBC, but tbh, not worth it Karl.
Easily overcome.
Better of doing Brianmoores fuel cut off mod.

Polsta, i'm going to fit a 13 OBC to my car towards the end of April, you are welcome to come up and have a look whilst i do it, might answer a few of your Qs. Whilst you are there you i can show you the dash fitting and a few other bits if it would be useful to you.

Including a 1 hour tea-break. I wouldn't bother fitting the horn and the relay box, as said, the immobilising function is fairly prehistoric.

how would the the relay box/imobiliser bit work in conjunction/interfere with a different (ie alarm) imobiliser ?

also, by looks of it i have a facelift code plug, if i cant change it or find a pre face, what difference would it make on a pre face ? just the mpg/range thing would be out ? yet its not that accurate anyway is it ?

Just had a closer look at the pic. in the OP.
The external temp. sensor shown pushed into the brake air duct doesn't appear to be a facelift one, which should have a socket on it, with a yellow plug pushed into it, similar in layout to a 'blue' temp. sensor on the engine. The sensor in the pic. looks like it might be a pre facelift one.

If the OBC loom is fitted with a factory or dealer fitted BMW alarm, the immobiliser pair of wires from each unit are connected with one wire from each to the immobiliser socket in the car's loom (two green wires, above the glovebox area), and the other wire of each immobiliser pair joined together.

thanks brian, do you mean the alarm (if there is one) would be inside the ecu box thing or seperate ? any way to tell ? is the imobiliser thing worth fitting or just totaly leave out ? im thinking if it can be fitted and it works, then why not as its another security feature added

i can get the fella who fitted my alarm to pop over once im at the suitable stage for an hour or 2 and have a good look through all the cars wiring and give everything a good look over and wire the stereo in too, as i had no stereo loom but ive got one now, and a blaupunkt memphis, whilst all the dash and interior is out its worth getting it all seen to properly isnt it

I had the same problem, I bought a face lift version and tracked down the correct brake duct set in the States.

It doesn't fit but I'll work something out
