No wouldn't have thought so, Oil & water aren't supposed to mix, in an engine

bar2, is there any sideways movement of the water pump, by hand,
and any new noise with engine running?
Also any lack of coolant?

Just striped more of it down looks to be coming from the head gasket and running down the inside of the timing belt cover. I just started the engine let it tickover for a few mins it then started to run rough and it started to drip water I took off the oil cap and it cut out the oil now looks like mayo

Did it overheat when you cracked the sump?

No did not relise what had happened at first I have a oil pressure gauge fitted and the first I new about it was when I saw the pressure starting to drop and when I stripped the engine it dropped the rest of the oil on to the road the oil light hadent even come on by the time I stopped it I never noticed if the water temp had went up are the heads on a m40 engine bad for warping

No more than any engine starved of oil, I would have thought.
You might get lucky and just find the Head gasket has blown.
Then again......

I had an m40 that sheared a bolt near the front and allowed the head gasket to blow worth taking the rocker cover off to check they are all ok

I once took the majority of the whole sump off an M40 engined E30 when I failed to notice the step where a dirt road turned into concrete. The car still drove for several hundred yards before the oil light came on. Complete new sump and oil pick up, and that engine was back in service again, as good as new.
The M40 engine is as close to indestructible as any car engine can be, and don't have any weak points, other than the well known cam and cam clearances issues, neither of which are terminal.
If the whole of your oil is like mayo (not just the underside of the filler cap) then you have a serious engine problem, which is most easily solved by a replacement engine.
Can't see any obvious connection between this and the sump destruction though.
