Apart from my personal rear end noise problems, i am hoping you can provide some guidance on what i can do / check out for my beloved 325i. I have searched but couldn't find the same combination of symptoms to help.

As far as i can remember (2.5 years) there has always been a rearward hiss. It is quite obvious when rolling down an incline without the engine running. Not sure if that is related to this new problem.

A couple of weeks ago i noticed a took-took-took noise that is definitely from the back somewhere, and is speed-dependant.

I only drive a short distance to/from work (3 miles / 10 minutes) and the noise doesn't make an appearance on the way in but does on the way home so must be heat related. It's slmost imperceptible during acceleration, coasting or deceleration but becomes obvious under braking, but only after the warming up period.

That makes me think that it isn't brake related.

The car feels rough through the floorpan when driving straight and turning right but disappears when turning left.

So, wheel bearings, cv joints, diff bearings?

Any advice would be appreciated.
