I can't remember where I read it but I've currently got my kit off and I'm thinking of applying some protective coatings to sit under the kit and in the box sections etc.

I don't want to use wax-oil because it stay's sticky and will trap all the dirt next to the paint.

Can anyone recommend any products?

Bilt hammer springs to mind but I have never used anything like this before.

Thoughts please :D

waxoyl/bilt hamber/dinatrol wax, are probably more or less all the same sort of finish/properties, they are anti rust/corrosion that form a barrier, they are not anti dirt !! , your probably getting confused with the underseal with added waxoyl sticky stuff...

but as said in another thread, if you can get access to a ramp, do the underside and chassis aswell, using an air line to blow the wax down through the chassis and along the sills, in the bottoms of doors and rear inner arches behind rear door cards etc, which if you do, a squirt of fertan beforehand in the bottom of the cavities and left for 24hrs before the waxing, will be beneficial to do, as that will form another barrier right in the joins/crannies, that actualy converts any rust to metal should it form, even in years time !

Scott, my car was resprayed and rear arches done in 2006 by a local bodyshop, they used a stonechip for the lower outer sill section, and Dynax S50 from the top of the sill to the top of the kit, its dried non-sticky and is in perfect condition still.

I bought 3 cans a few months ago to go over it again before the kit goes back on. I used about 2 cans just on all the cavity's and behind rear door cards etc before the carpet went back in, its easy stuff to use and comes with a 60cm lance. I strongly recommend heating the can up for ten mins before spraying. Not the cheapest stuff but looks to last well.

Hope this helps :D

Don't leave out the strip of tape that goes on the paintwork where the top of the kit contacts the body.

I've just removed this Brian with a hair dryer. It was cracked and brittle. I found the tape in a box of bits I ordered years ago along with all new clips. :D

Yup.

Its a clear thin tape about 5mm thick that runs on the top lip of the kit. After 20 years mine was missing in places and generally looking nasty. If I'm honest I never new it was there until I spoke to the bearded one.

I have ordered the Dynax S50 and to keep Polsta happy cracked open the bottle of FERTAN!

I used a syringe and some thin wash wipe pipe to get all around the inner arches and into the inner sills.

Fertan FTW!!!

FTW !!! put it in a spray bottle (you can buy them aswell) and spray in the sills throuh the inside holes and in bottoms of the doors, it will just lay dormant and stop anything rusting out

Its currently leaking out of all the water drains in the sills making a mess of the garage floor.

Scott I used 3m stone chip/sealer on the lower sill and bottom of the doors behind the kit this was then painted body colour when the car was painted
Then the box sections/inner sills were waxoyled before the kit went back on

exactly what ive gone for with mine, rather than just re paint with body paint, so the sills and wing bottoms etc will be good for years to come

Thanks Meatballs, that must be it, I was looking at the bumpers there and don't see anything for them.
