Bloody IS is giving more agro 8O

Does anybody know the amps of a 1990 (H) e30 318is, done a bit of search but getting conflicting results, i know shoving a slightly high amp alt on wont affect anything but i do know other alts have differnt mounting positions usualy leading to the pully being out a fair few mm's.

Anyone know a part number i could give to a local motor factors as there confused about which alternator i need

Thank you :)

First of all, your existing alternator probably only needs a new regulator pack fitted. A job that can be completed in twenty minutes easily, without removing the alternator. Other things can go wrong, but rarely.
iS will have a 65A or possibly 80A unit fitted. If you do buy a rebuilt replacement, remove and retain the pulley before you hand in the old unit, since they rarely come with pulley fitted.
These are the OE part numbers for iS alternators: 12 31 1 721 692, 12 31 1 721 778, 12 31 1 739 362 or 12 31 1 739 363

thanks for the helpful reply. im not with the car so i cannot find my what amps my alternator is but i assume the 80amp will be ok fitting wise?

The engines on 160k now and the alt looks standard, so i wont be to fussed changing it for a new one, but i will check regulator pack and check how much meat there is left on them :)
